I walked on my toes until I was 9. When I was 9 I had both legs put in plaster splints for several weeks in order to stretch my feet upwards. Walking flat footed is still uncomfortable, but toe-walking is now even more uncomfortable so I walk flat footed. I also bounce when I walk which has been, and still is the target of a lot of bullying. I also drag my feet and scuff the backs of my shoes, although I have noticed that my right foot gets more scuffed than the left.

The only time I have bare feet is either in the summer when it's hot and I've been wearing sandals, or after I've come out of the bath and in my vest and shorts, ready for bed. Otherwise - I always wear socks. I cannot stand having bare feet when I have trousers on. I always have to wear socks, and they always got to be clean aswell, so I change them every day.

And no, I don't walk on tiptoes.

I frequently walk on my toes, especially around the house but I have caught myself doing it in public too. Er... could anyone explain why this would be an aspie behavior?

I'd like to know too. I never would have made the association.

I have always wondered why other people sounded like draft horses when they walked, while I was always light on my feet (due to landing on my toes rather than my heels).

I used to toe walk as a kid and stll sleep witth my feet pointed like that in my sleep. This has caused my atelies tendon to be too short which causes alot of foot pain. I cant wak for more than 30 in without terrible foot pain. Trying physical therapy for and wearing a brace at night

Never really toe walked, but I did have an unusual method of locomotion as a little kid: I would run on all fours like a horse, and jump around on all fours like a frog.
I thought it was better than walking for a long time, and was upset with myself when I was naturally growing out of it.

I did something similar but because I did not want to be human....too complex

I'm not a toe walker. I'm a heel striker with heavy over-pronation and I'm a little knock-kneed.

I had no idea toe walking was more of an autistic thing (I'm HFA... not Aspie)... I thought it was just something weird that I did as a personal quirk. I haven't been doing this all my life though. I started doing it maybe when I turned 21. I moved into the 3rd floor of an apartment and started walking like that to dampen the noise of my walking because I'm a night owl. I found I liked walking on my toes since it felt better than walking on the rest of my foot. I usually do this all the time when alone but in public I don't so much just because I'm aware it is quirky and weird to other people. I also find it easier to toe walk up stairs but when going down stairs I walk on the back of my foot since it feels safer. Anyway though toe walking does give you some muscle in your legs so I don't see anything too wrong with it.

Although I'm noticing something. I don't know if it's related to toe walking but the joints in my knees are beginning to warp. As in the joint feels awkward and looking down toward my feet with my legs facing forward... my feet are not straight but curve to the sides at a decent angle. Also I can feel stress on the joint that just feels bad... like if I put too much force on the joint it could snap... it's a gross feeling. Yet when I toe walk this bad joint feeling and whatnot goes away... that's why I wonder if this warp is caused by toe walking and if it could actually be a bad habit. Does anybody here know anything about toe walking causing this?

I toe walk all the time as well. I also go up the stairs on all fours....I have no idea why.

It's something about stairs. You always feel like you're going to fall backwards... I suppose because of the motion of the body as you step upward. At least, that's how I feel sometimes.

I toe walk when barefooted and don't like the sensation of the ground against my feet.

I have always had a fear of stairs because everytime I look at some I imagine myself falling on my face and breaking my teeth. I know it sounds really odd but that thought does scare me. So I think maybe going up the stairs on all fours offers me more control or something.

I grew up doing it and still do it.

I even do it at work, wearing my work shoes.

When not wearing shoes then I don't walk normally. I find myself walking on my toes (really the ball of the foot) while walking up and down stairs or while running. I also don't like the feeling of a heel banging into a hard surface, so I sort of shuffle my feet on bare floors, especially when wearing socks since they easily glide.
