They make me angry when I see them. They'd rather treat symptoms in perpetuity (and cause side-effects in the process) instead of encouraging people to make lifestyle changes and eliminate the root cause such as obesity or high blood sugar level.
But no, the message is: keep eating junk food and pop these pills here. Or go ahead and have all the unprotected sex you want: when you get herpes we'll just give you this other pill. Etc....
Despicable.
If they really wanted to educate people, they could start with the fact that a viral infection is usually quite a bit more difficult to treat than a bacterial infection. And that vitamin pills don't make up for a diet that is too high in saturated fat, etc. (I am however open-minded toward medication for the treatment of depression.)
