I was actually able to see the illusion, the first time. I've tried it three more times, and I saw the same thing that I saw the first time.

^^Greetings everyone.

I believe that I the happy little face appeared to be three-dimensional for myself. I am sorry if I am incorrect however.

For me, it was 3D no matter what. 3d on all sides.

I saw the convex shape initially. I find it interesting interesting though that I can consciously switch between seeing convex and concave faces if I concentrate. This reminds me of a photograph an old friend of mine took of herself walking on the beach where it looked like the footprints were sticking out.

I can only see the face as concave when it's at an oblique angle. As soon as I can see both eyes it pops into a convex face rotating the opposite direction. I can't process a concave face straight on no matter how hard I try.

It pops out for me when the nose comes into view.

It is definitely not face-blindness for this. It's lighting. If the light was at a different angle, this wouldn't work as well. The shadows are just the inverse of the convex, because of that the areas that are concave, have a whiter tone, so your mind processes them as being extrusions. Colors that are darker ie. the black shadows, are processed as being intrusions.

Nope it's not face-blindness. If it were, 70% of people voting on the poll are unlikely to have chosen the convex option.

So, NTs see it turn into a normal face as it rotates, and Autistic people see the true hollow face as it rotates?

I find it harder to see in this video. I could see it better in the 3D animation. However, in both, my brain tended to see the eyes as concave but thelower part of the mask as convex. It was like my bran couldnd't decide what it wanted to see. So i'm not sure how the vote.

I had dx'd Asperger's as well as eidetic memory--people with eidetic memory often have a harder times seeing optical illusions. I can't see man yoptical illusions. Some, but most of the time I don't see them.

I can't see pictures in dots. My friends could see them but I would stare and stare and still see nothing but dots.

Neurotypical, Autism Spectrum, Schizoid Spectrum are human constructs that define a variety of characterestics. I suspect that the majority of people on the Schizoid Spectrum, Autism Spectrum, and "Neurotypicals" see the illusion of a normal face as it rotates. Some people, born neurotypical, get brain injuries later in life and do not see the illusion. Studies show that a majority of Schizophrenics (not schizotypal, or schizoid) do not see the illusion. I suspect that some people, lower on the Autism Spectrum, can't see the illusion. People with Aspergers may be more likely to see the illusion. There are also different levels of faceblindness, some so severe that the person cannot recognize the faces of their immediate family. I suspect that people with mild cases of faceblindness can see the illusion.

I see the hollow face on the back side, and the normal face on the front side.

Strange... I'm disappointed in myself cos I can't figure the illusion out despite watching the video several times. I swear that I always see two normal faces.

I see a normal face on the back side of the mask every time I watch it. Does that mean I'm not Autistic?

While its spinning, I don't see the illusion, I see a hollow face on the back. If I stop the video and just see it still, then I see it.

That's the illusion. One actually sees the back of the mask instead of the illusion of a face, if they cannot see the illusion.

No, it just means you see the illusion as most people do. There is some research that suggests the inability to see optical illusion may be associated with autism, but it is just an association, not a clinical feature of autism.

There is a strong association with not seeing the illusion and schizophrenia, but still just an association, not clinically considered a feature of schizophrenia.
