Thank you Aspie1, I'll give that one a try.

So, it's like people on the spectrum have difficult expressing empathy?

Can you explain that to me please?

And whoever tried to take my brothers impulse hitting and compare it to a symptom of pyshcopathy obviously needs to do a bit more reading.

The animal abuse that psychopaths inflict on animals is far worse than my brother hitting the dog.

A psychopath abuses an animal for the sake of seeing it in pain and my brother isn't like that.

Actually its very common for people on the spectrum to have a larger respect for animals than normal people.
How do you know why your brother is abusing the dog? Because it's CERTAINLY not because he's autistic.

The fact that he is 8 years old and has not learned to treat animals with respect is alarming. Does he have anything else apart from the autism?

I'd say its an attention thing. He knows hitting the dog will make people pay attention to him, good or bad. But you can't give animals to people who are not capable of learning to respect them, so I would suggest you find something else to help him out.

My parents see him do it, in fact my mother caught him kick the dog twice today.

He doesn't have anything other than autism, although my mom did think that he also had OCD.

I see where you are coming from....hmmmm.

But still, my mom and I have told him thousands upon thousands of times that it isn't right to hit the dog. But he keeps doing it! However, the dog has flea bitten him several times, she's pretty mad at him when he does it.

ARRRGGGHH!

Maybe if he is flea bitten enough times he'll stop hitting the dog. I've explained to him that it hurts her feelings and if makes her angry which is why she flea bites him. He just doesn't seem to get it and doesn't show much empathy or remorse for his actions either.

Get rid of the dog, than. No dog should have to go through that. Either that, or your brother should get a spanking every time he abuses the dog. Try the spankings and see if they work, first.

Hit him back. No, not full-fledged punches/slaps, but give him some negative stigma to associate with hitting the dog. I guess it doesn't have to be hitting back, but do something physical. Words apparently don't have any effect on him, time to go a step further and get it through his head. (So to speak)

You need to let him know it's unacceptable and if he's not willing to listen with his ears you gotta let him know in other ways.

Maybe show your brother some horrible story of animal abuse (there are plenty out there on the internet). If his reaction is 'that's horrible', then ask what's different with the story and what he's doing to the dog?

If he laughs or finds the story hilarious, then I second the guys who suggest finding a new home for the dog, or even make it not 'his dog' anymore (i.e. more of a family, or your dog). He hasn't earned the right to be responsible for an animal.

There is also the lower route of telling his friends (if he has any) what he does. That might embaress him enough to stop & the more people working on him the better the chance of success... just hope his friends aren't psychos too (little kids are often cruel).

When I was little the only way my parents could get me to keep from hitting other people or animals was to smack me on the ass. They would tell me thats what you brother feels when you hit him. They could not reason with me I could out argue them. I also did not relize I was hurting them because I have such a high pain threshold. They tried to put me in the corner but I just would sit there day dreaming without seeing it as a punishment. They would take away my toys and I would just go back to day dreaming while lying on the couch. They had no choice but to show me what I was doing to people and pets when I hit them.
