Of course it isn't wrong. Our special interests are a part of who we are. If our interests aren't hurting anyone or anything, then we shouldn't be made to feel badly about wanting to indulge in them and share them with others.

It is definitely not "wrong" to be interested in an atypical subject.

I'm not a Beatles Fan, so shoot me. If I want the world to know that I'm a Kinks Fan, nothing's going to stop me from spreading the word on WP. WP should be a safe haven where we can all talk about our special interests. Durring Autism Awareness Month in April, I feel that we should celebrate Autism Acceptance Month instead and speak freely of our special interests. We can all celebrate are differences for a month and beyond. I thought that I'd throw the idea out there. :)

I like that idea. I gladly seize any and all opportunities to share my interests with the world. :D

I devote all of my time to my interests, whatever they are at the moment. If there's something I'm really interested in, I'll put all my effort into studying and mastering the subject. If not, I won't even care. That's why I didn't do so well in school. Who needs math? I'd rather discuss World War 2. Hell, I'm satisfied talking about the news, why does that never even arise in class? Isn't it the most important to learn about the current situation of the world? No wonder this planet is filled with ignorant kids.

Anything above basic math is useless unless you plan on studying it in college. I'm with you!

I don't think it's so much about having "special interests" that are "unusual."

Rather for people like us, our special interests are EVERYTHING and the mundane has no attraction.

NTs seem to generally be able to regulate their special interests to the sideline so they have a lot of mainstream interests as well.

hi.. sorry if the general NT population makes it feel wrong to have your 'special interests'. but as an NT i would want to say it is not wrong. i'm pretty sure that there are NT's that have 'special interests' too that feels the same way like you do. and there are other NT's that would understand and respect your choice, though there might not be a lot.

do whatever you like and that's what everybody does. don't care what they say about your choice. its your life and its your time and the best way to spend it is to do whatever you please with whatever you choose. just saying.. :)

I agree, NTs make our special interests sound "stupid" or other similar things. I told my social worker that I have an obsession about the London Underground and its rolling stock and she made it out that it was an abnormal interest and even more so when I told her I'm going trainspotting with my friend after my exams!

Well, it is... But I'm going to say what everyone else has been afraid to:

There IS something wrong with being a Kinks fan.

But other than that, it's all good.

No, not unless that leads to some kind of suffering.

What's wrong with being interested in a band? Lots of people love certain musicians and bands. I feel I must tell you that our resident Kinks fan is quite a sensitive soul and I'm positive your comment will hurt her feelings. For someone who claims to be a devout Christian who reads their Bible for hours, you're certainly not behaving like a Christian should. Jesus would never make a joke at another person's expense. Like I always say, it's not a joke if the other person isn't laughing.

Very sorry if I've offended. For what it's worth, I play in a band that does a couple of Kinks covers.

And it WAS only a joke.

As to reading the Bible for hours, ok, that's only fair. But even with reading the Bible, listening to the Kinks, or playing handbells--there IS a certain amount of danger in taking things TOO seriously. It's something I have to really work at, but I really try not to take myself too seriously. Enjoying the things we enjoy is something we do, well, for fun.

After all, if God didn't have a sense of humor, He wouldn't have created the duck-billed platypus.

This is something that I never understood. Why are some interests so wrong, from a social standpoint? I know a lot of NTs who are as obsessed with their own interests as I am with mine, but, somehow, it's normal.

It's OK. Sorry if I overreacted - it's just that CockneyRebel is a very close friend of mine and I hate it when her feelings get hurt. I know you meant well, but I couldn't tell that from over the Internet, especially since you didn't put "just kidding" afterwards. CockneyRebel would have probably took the comment the wrong way as well, which is why I sprang in to defend her. I realize that God probably does have a sense of humor, but not at other people's expense. One of the things you need to realize about WrongPlanet is that some of us don't like having our special interests made fun of, so you need to be more careful about what and who you make jokes about.

Well I apologise for initiating this entire rouse.
