I think I talk in a fairly normal voice. The first time I asked a psychiatrist if I might have AS, he used the fact that I don't have a monotone voice as "proof" that I don't have AS. (I have since been diagnosed as on the spectrum.)
I don't have a monotone voice (at all) either and I'm diagnosed. People actually have commented on how much inflection I have in my voice. A lot of people have thought that I have an accent though (and I'm from the country that I live in). Also I have difficulty modulating the volume of my voice.....often in public places if I'm really excited about something I get really loud and my mom has to shush me (I hate that for some reason). When I try to speak more quietly sometimes my voice becomes as low as an inaudible whisper (under my breath).
Some people don't believe my AS diagnosis when they first meet me............but for a doctor to say that lacking
one characteristic (which isn't even listed in the symptoms criteria in DSMIV-TR....I don't know what system he/she was using) was
proof that you didn’t have AS......is ridiculous!
