I wear sunglasses- eye protection, people can't tell if I'm making eye contact, and they cover up the huge dark circles under my eyes.

Win, win, win!

I wear sunglasses wherever and whenever I can get away with them. They protect from bright lights and help to get away with not making eye-contact. I also keep my mp3 player and ear-buds with me all the time. Music is so much better than the street noise. It's beautiful, rhythmical and predictable. So I never leave my home without these things.

I don't have serious sensory issues. I wear earplugs at work because certain sounds really bug me, particularly people walking around whistling, singing, and snapping fingers. Whenever that happens it takes me several minutes to calm myself down enough to focus on what I am doing.

I don't wear earplugs or sunglasses.

I tried sunglasses on a really long bike tour recently, and my vision was so strange I had an unpleasant feeling all the time. So even when biking I wear colorless glasses (with UV protection, of course). On the street or in the car I prefer to avoid everything on my nose and in my sight. It makes me feel unpleasant and sometimes just sleepy, no matter how strange it sounds.

I only wear earplugs when I swim, they are unpleasant too, but necessary. I listen to music at home to surpass noises (but can not sleep over it), and at low volumes most of the time. When I'm working, I would prefer an environment without annoying commercial radio broadcastings on metallic-sounding clock-radio units, they drive me crazy. I have to listen to music on my earphones despite they also bother me. My earphones that I use are more then 20 years old, lightweight, relatively non-irritating and relatively good sounding. I just don't know what I would do if I'll have to get something instead of them when they wore out finally.

I tried to wear large sunglasses made to fit over my regular glasses but they made my head hurt and the prescription sunglasses I got didn't block enough light(and also gave me headaches). So I don't wear sunglasses though I wish I could. I do sometimes wear a wide brimmed hat in the summer which helps a little bit.

I wear sunglasses a lot (and even then, bright light still hurts my eyes). I wear earplugs when I go to see bands; I've had really bad tinnitus for over a decade and don't want it to keep getting worse.

I wear earplugs every day. I only wear sunglasses when I'm outside and I'm trying to read.

If the sun is ultra bright I wear shades. If it is very loud, I wear ear protectors.

I wear sunglasses almost all the time outside, but I don't wear headphones as much anymore. I wear headphones in the car when there are a lot of people talking at once along with music playing or in similar situations, but not just when I'm walking to class.

Ughhh... sensory issues....

Yeah, I am a fan of the headphones... ear buds get on my nerves after awhile and become painful but I will take them over the noise if I have to go to a particularly noisy place. I wear hats and no sunglasses because I cannot tolerate them on my face. Smells get to me as well so it is common to see my with half of my face stuffed into the sleeve of my hoodie. Heh.

I have several sensory problems. A lot of things are bad texture. Too many people, too much light or sound or motion is enough to make me run away and pass out until I have managed to hit that internal reset button. Light touch can make me slap a person. The list goes on. I guess it is a good thing that I never did like going out and doing things, eh?

I always wear my sunglasses if I'm outside, and if I'm inside I keep all the blinds closed. I lost my Ipod, so I haven't had my earphones recently.... I really do miss them.

I also have some foam earplugs that I wear when I'm vacuuming or other noisy things like that.

my sunglasses are polarised ones, so there is no shift in colour or viewing angle at the edges, which annoys me to no end when i'm wearing normal shades.

:cyclopsani: :lmao: - oh, how i can remember those days when i used to pick up a new stronger pair of glasses - people must have thought, i was drunk the way i kept on bumping into things - walking down a set stairs was always horror complete, especially with smaller lenses that left a gap between lower edge and cheek and all the rooms seemed to cave in on me. It always took me more than a week to adjust.
curtains on bright days are life savers, .

as for earplugs; i do have specally made active supression ones that i always carry with me, but to prevent getting used to them and becoming overloaded when i take them out; i only actually wear the plugs if it is really nessecary.

8O , i love this thread, i used to sleep with earplugs for years - until my son was born,.
The anxiety to not hear my baby cry or to hear the fire alarm or to hear the neighbours knock the door down, because their house was on fire, or or or !
It took me literally years to come to terms with the fact that i had to sleep without earplugs, and i think the lack of sleep i suffered during this time was a big contributor to the fact that my epilepsy resurfaced after being under control for 25 years, so i wish somehow to have taken your more cautious approach not to become "dependent" on them for a restful sleep.
Now i am so pumped full with antiepileptic drugs ( one makes me sleepy and the other one causes disrupted sleep )
that i really do not need the earplugs anymore, .

I wear my sunglasses, even at night.

One evening, I was going to the store, and had to listen to the bus driver rant at me about "looking like an a**hole" before I could get on the bus.

The lights from street lamps can be very painful to me, though.

I can't wear earplugs because of touch sensory issues. I can generally shut out sound if I focus (it's not really a meditative technique. What I do is energy focus). Noise-cancelling headphones would be really nice, though.

I am a bit sensitive to light but find it manageable just wearing my prescription glasses. I wear ear plugs to sleep and sometimes when things are too intense I plug my ears. I remember even doing this in class at school.

I wear glasses, so I have the automatic tinting in them to adjust to sunlight. What I have my eye doctor do to my glasses is also put in a special coating that fragments bright light (by scattering it somehow). This helps cut down on brightness for me. So---I have two things to deal with brightness in my glasses---automatic tinting and special coating. As for sound, I don't wear earplugs or anything. But, like light, sound can bother me.

In restaurants I often have to ask for seats away from windows where bright lights (like sunlight, car window glares, etc.) come through. One time when a waiter acted put out by this request, my wife and I and kids promptly left the restaurant without saying a word.

A few days ago we were eating in a new restaurant in town, and several men were getting very loud in their conversation over politics. We grabbed our plates, walked up to the hostess, and demanded to be seated elsewhere. She gave us a nice quiet seat away from the loudness. The staff was very nice about it and apologized on behalf of the loud arguing men.

Sensory issues like this can be very annoying to me. It's like they take over my mind and disallow me to concentrate on anything else. I can only take so much of annoying sensory things until I have to leave the setting where the sensory issue is. In the school where I teach, we have very loud fire alarms. During drills, as I lead my class out of the building down the hallway past the fire alarms, I cover my ears.

I also have sensory issues with touch, smell, and certain tastes. For example, whereas many people love cilantro in food, it tastes like a chemical or metal to me. Certain smells can be very annoying to me. And as with many of us here on the autism spectrum, I don't like to be touched unless I am expecting it from someone like my family.

Sunglasses, yes. If I even go out while the sun is out I MUST have my glasses. My glasses too...I used car window tint on them for extra darkness....

I have earbuds in most of the time for listening to music while anywhere sounds out of my control may be present. Otherwise I have music playing at my home pc, or laptop, or work station etc. I cannot handle ambient sounds, chaos...

And yea....florecent lights. I notice when theyre going out before anyone else does. They start flickering, it's unsettling.
