Yep: I agree with you; if I ever have kids, I'm going to homeschool them for middle school and high school. If they are AS, I fear they will be bullied like I was. If they are NT and turn out to be socially popular, I fear they will fall prey to peer pressure and learn to bully those weaker than them. It's such a toxic social environment and the classes don't teach much other than regurgitating information. I believe the best knowledge is pursued by oneself and in this day and age of the internet, a teenager can learn about any subject that interests than as well as search for community resources or products they might need to learn any hands on activities. I so wish I could have been homeschooled but my idiot parents believed that my ultimate success in life would only depend on my grades.

Here's more about my high school years; http://www.myaspergerslifestory.com/my_ ... years.html

Go to the school library and read encyclopedias and other nonfiction books (this was just a few short years before the internet went mainstream).

During my freshman year and early in my sophomore year I tried to make friends but ultimately gave up and decided to settle for books over people. The emotionally bullying got so bad at once point, I would occasionally cut school to go to the public library (a mile from my school) and spend the whole day there reading.

I can relate. I cut class to go to the school library in high school, and eventually started cutting to leave school and go to Powell's Books.

I learned a lot more than I ever did from classes, though.

I would occasionally leave campus and head to the book store too. That was my idea of "ditching".

There was no way that I was going to eat any of the weird things cooked up in the cafeteria. They always smelled so so so gross, but I never tasted them. If I ate lunch on campus at all it would be a 44 ounce Pepsi and a bag of cheddar and sour cream Ruffles. I would crush the unopened bag to smash the chips and pour the chip crumbs in my mouth because I hated the feeling of having chip dust on my hands.

I could walk really fast, and when I planned to eat, I could usually get to the school's concessions store before anyone else, buy the chips and soda, eat them, and then get to the library within the passing period. Regardless of whether I ate, every day I would go to the library to browse the internet.

i went to the music room or sat on the auditorium steps away from the cafeteria or, weather permitting, sat outside.

one lunch period i recited steven wright jokes till i had said all of the ones i knew. i think someone was even listening.

there was no internet as we know it when i was in high school.

I eventually got to where I stopped eating lunch altogether, and just stayed in the classroom and watched TV.

Ate, got on the computer and look up my interests, listened to music or played my games, went to the library and look at old magazines, and when I was 17, I tried hanging out with my peers but I was bored and it didn't interest me and I can remember holding back talking about my obsessions and I remember how that felt. But then I burned out from interacting and just started to hang out by myself listening to music or playing my games.

I went home for lunch. Our house was just 1 block away. :) Our school had no lunch room and everybody just sat on the floor in the hall, eating various foods like pop and chips, which were disgusting to me. I'd rather eat a fresh hot meal on a clean table. Very occasionally I brought a lunch and eat there. Sometimes I took a friend to come home with me and ate together.

to start off i hung out in a group of 4 on the playground. our group was eclectic and had nothing in common with each other. one left because the other 2 teased her about having a friend with a y chromasome and i stayed with the other 2 until they did the same to me(sort of). then i started hanging out in the library and reading or researching my obsessions. it was like a haven to me although i felt guilty at first for going there because i wasnt allowed(parents said not to because it was anti social but i made more friends in there than the playground). at first alone then with the friend who left our group of 4 and the boy she was friends with then random friends that i made by accident. wouldnt spend every lunch with them though. sometimes a girl just needs some alone time. they understood. they werent overly social themselves.

I figured out that if I walked home and back right away the lunch hour would be over. So as soon as the bell rang i'd walk home then once I got home i'd turn around right away (ate my sandwhiches walking) and wiuld be back at school for next period. :)

Climbed trees (and ate my lunch up in them), made dens everywhere out of sticks (me and my friends called them "Kenyas") and had shoe tossing contests with my friends. Ahh, the good old days...
