LOL! Are you talking about that short story? I can't remember the name of it, but the lady loses her mind while staring at yellow wall paper?

Haha. Now I'm curious what the story with the yellow wallpaper is.

My walls are plain ol' reliable magnolia paint with nothing hanging on them. I guess I'm safe? 8O

The last room I rented, I tried to paint the walls a nice happy yellow that would brighten it up because it was in the basement, and the walls turned out this really gross orange colour, the colour of Kraft mac and cheese.

i am flatulantly incorrect :eew: to an incurable extent ["take Beano and there will be sweeter-smelling gas!" ], so only the numb of nose need apply to live with my stinky slobbiness. and in reference to another poster's yellow wallpaper discussion, there is a good ol' Statler Brothers song which describes my situation very well-

sing along to Flowers On The Wall!-

I keep hearin' you're concerned about my happiness
But all that thought you're givin' me is conscience I guess
If I was walkin' in your shoes, I wouldn't worry none
While you 'n' your friends are worried about me I'm havin' lots of fun

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me, "I've nothin' to do-"

Last night I dressed in tails, pretended I was on the town
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down
So please don't give a thought to me, I'm really doin' fine
You can always find me here, I'm havin' quite a time

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me, "I've nothin' to do-"

It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
Anyway my eyes are not accustomed to this light
And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
So I must go back to my room and make my day complete

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me, "I've nothin' to do-"

Don't tell me, "I've nothin' to do..."

Sometimes I need my own space, but I'd hate to lose my SO and live alone.

@auntblabby - that's one of my favourite songs - the lyrics make so much sense to me :D

i discovered the meaning behind the lyrics when it was pointed out to me by somebody who told me, "that's a catchy song but you know, they are singing about a guy who isn't playing with a full deck."

I found the title! It's a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, called "The Yellow Wallpaper."

Meeting my SO was the chance result of a sequence of painful events. I like to think that I went through a year of tormented hell, then something good happened.

A lot of the best songs are meaningful. When I was homeless, I only ever played songs like this on my Walkman. Every other song seemed empty. As soon as I had a proper home again, I started listening to ABBA. Weird

Always go a few shades lighter than you think you want. (I speak from the same experience you had!)

that is because "misery loves company" - when you were no longer miserable, then you no longer needed the miserable company and so you went back to the cheerful company.

I think I would actually prefer to live alone. Having a full time job will be plenty of social interaction for me. Not to mention if I ever get lonely I can always visit relatives. There's no need to live with them.

I don't want to be alone. If I moved out on my own right now I would invite my friend to come live with me, or advertise. I like to be alone but not 'that' alone.

I would, but at the moment I am very unsure of other people and how to deal with them. I think it probably all depends on the circumstances to be honest with you.

I'm married with children, but I preferred living with only one other person. 3 other people gets to me a lot.

Why there isn't an option for "I'd live with a SO"? Voted other.

I probably could live alone, but I would prefer to live with my SO if money weren't an issue. If that were the case, it's more likely that we would get married. After all, we had talked about marriage, but the main reason we haven't done so is because of money.

Speaking of paint, I learned that you have to go several shades lighter when my parents bought what they thought was a pretty pink shade, but it looked like they'd painted their bedroom in Pepto Bismol.
