I find it physically difficult to call someone by their name to their face or to get their attention. I try to say their name and it just doesn't come out. I haven't thought too much about it, like why this happens.
I also feel a little strange when people say my name. Nervous, almost.
With people I have known for a long time I can say their names without many difficulties. But I find saying a person's name to be kind of... intimate.
I have a little trouble talking about a person by their name. I end up just saying "a friend," or "some person/people I know." But if it's someone who is known by the person I am speaking to I can say it more easily.
It took about a year with my boyfriend, and then he started prodding me to say his name and eventually I can now say it to him easily. But before (since it was long distance and partially online) I would just call him by his username or just say "hey" or "you" to get his attention, like I do with most people. LOL
