How would you react to being told that your kid is an aspie?
I could have picked any and all of the disappointed options, so I picked nothing.
I'd love my kid no matter what, but finding out he/she was Autistic would be devastating only because I want my child to have the opportunity to do and be anything they desire, and Autism puts up a barrier that can be very hard to deal with. I could take comfort in the fact that today a kid with AS can get help and do quite well, but that still relies on being "mild" on the spectrum.
Parents HATE watching their kids make the same mistakes they did. A loving parent wants to teach their kid not to do the wrong thing. We learn by painful mistakes and we want our kids to avoid having to learn things the hard way. When it becomes obvious that they are determined to make those same mistakes...it is heart wrenching.
I would be cursing my genetics for dooming my offspring to life like the one I was forced to live through but unlike my parents I will push my kids. They never pushed me to do anything and I am the biggest waste of life right now. I would invest heavily in judo and boxing training for my kids its better if they are the ones doing the hitting then the getting hit. I would also make them to read Nietzsche, Tzun Tzu, and Machiavelli. My last two years of high school were spent free of torment due to the use of extreme violence. I would want my kids to be a pitbulls attacking the wolves who stalk the sheep. I would also push them into working on their education and try to find ways to teach them how to use their special intrests to their finacial advantage. I would want them to know if they try hard enough the same kids who made fun of them in school will be the schelpes who will be mowing their lawns and washing their cars.
