I've never heard of that. But I don't think really humans need much help towards extinction. It's what they're good at. After all, they've tried it quite a few times. The only problem is that they're taking the rest of the planet with them. Besides, I've always thought that if there were any intelligent life and they reached Earth, it wouldn't be difficult to conquer humanity. People already fight against each other and as I said, are trying to finish each other off already, they don't really need much help.

I'm worried we will develop faster & better space travel & rape other planets before Earth is destroyed. I think if an alien race tried to conquer earth; mankind would bane together & use their fighting skills, weapons & resources to fight back. But they'll start fighting each other again 1ce the battle is over because people love to fight & don't care who or why they are fighting

Worried? Heck, I'm worried we won't ever develop faster and better space travel. Approximately 1/2 of all stars have at least one planet (that we can detect with today's technology). There are 100 billion stars on average in each galaxy. With modern telescopes we can see 50 billion galaxies within the known universe. And that's just the known universe; scientists suspect that the ratio of the size of the known universe to the universe's actual size is the equivalent of an atom to the known universe. There are so many planets out there, it really doesn't matter if we 'rape' them or not.

While it's true that we will probably always fight each other, the expansion of humanity into space is one cause that I will always support. I can't think of anything I would want to see more than better space travel. It's one of the few causes that would actually be worth dieing for, in my opinion. It always bothers me when people say things like we'll never be able to go faster than the speed of light and all of that other crap. A hundred years ago, we didn't even have air conditioning. Our industrial revolution really hasn't even begun yet.

Space travel would be good if it's like on Star Trek & we have the prime directive on non interference but if it's like Star Wars or FireFly it would be bad

I seriously doubt that would happen at first. I think Stephen Hawking's analogy is accurate. If we ever discover another civilization, either we will be enslaved, or we will enslave them, just as what happened when the Europeans came to America. Although eventually things would even out and we would probably have equality.

I think the same. I mean, just look at Earth. It's the only planet with humanity, and just look! If people went to other planets, it wouldn't be long before those other planets would be all messed up, too.

I find it slightly humorous to stumble upon posts like this.
Not only are you human, but what's the point in being so angry about something you obviously can never change?

I dislike a significant percentage of humanity, I'm ambivalent to the majority and there are the worthy few.

Yes, I'm a misanthrope. Though I can really like individual people. Ive met people who are the opposite. They claim to really love people and yet seem to have many difficulties and complaints about everyone they actually know. A strange reversal there.

I have a test for how misanthropic I'm feeling at any particular moment. I'll sometimes imagine a button in front of me. If I push the button all of the world's nuclear weapons will fire at once. Sometimes I push it, sometimes I don't. If you were watching me you'd just see me reach my hand out and tap the table. It might look like I was thinking and just tapping. You wouldn't realize I'd just consigned you and yours to nuclear fire.

That's true. I am human. Perhaps that could be why I dislike them. Then I've met very few nice people. It makes more sad than angry. I mean, when reading human history, there is really very little in it that's good. Not to mention that it keeps repeating itself. People are also unreasonable. And like when at work, someone stole oen of the laptops. Why would anyone steal a laptop? Wouldn't it be more satisfactory to buy your own? But then, I must remember, people like to steal.

What's important is that so many of you have found a neat way to feel superior to almost everyone.

I would disagree, and say that's not important. Nor is it the reason I say I think I'm misanthropic. I don't think I'm superior to everyone, and I don't want to be either. This wasn't meant to be a question or a post for people to argue about what other people think and why the way each other think is wrong.
On the contrary, I think by saying that you make yourself sound like you're trying to make yourself feel superior to all of us.

Here's my train of thought

you hate/dislike all humanity and you don't set yourself above humanity (you are not superior)
therefor you dislike/hate yourself
OR
You do not hate/dislike yourself but you hate/dislike all humanity, in which case you set yourself above humanity as superior

So if you're a misantrope it's either you hate everyone and yourself, or you just hate everyone but yourself, in which case you are "better" in some way.

my original post was in fact a reference to this XKCD comic http://xkcd.com/774/

I never said that I don't dislike myself. I won't speak for anyone else that replied though.

I hate traits of people, not people themselves.
