Aspergers mentioned in the Daily Mail
I did not read "hook up". Does it specifically say that they had sex with this person? He could easily hand them a sample of his fluids and they could have it inseminated. I don't know why you think "hook up". Also did you read where these women are discriminated against due to their sexual preferences? (This btw also tells me that they did not have SEX with this person) You do not know of the culture there nor the "risk" associated with buying sperm from an individual versus not. It could be that this practice is very common and this incident is 1 in 10,000. In which case it can be argued as an intelligent risk for these women who would have to otherwise wait for up to 3 years to even be considered. Oh and btw. How does this clinic thouroughly screen for Aspergers? The guy could lie to the clinics too. It is mostly invisible remember? You guys are all jumping to all these "conclusions" and judging the women and that boggles my mind. They are the victims here. First of the practice of discrimination based on their sexual preference and then by this monster who lied about his geneology and his disorder. Now these women have to raise a child who potentially will need massive services for the rest of his life. I beg to differ. Autism is a potential HUGE worry for them.
The article said the men who donate on line are, sometimes, just after sex and they have sex with some of the women they impregnate. Might as well go find a guy friend you've known your whole life and ask him if he'd do it, you'd be safer than finding some bozo off the internet you know nothing about. If the "donor" has had unprotected sex with multiple partners he is high risk for STDs.
What a surprise, the comments section has been closed down yet the damaging article remains.
I would suggest that everyone here, and every aspergian floods them with demands for its immediate return, how else will we be able to rebuke the offensive claims of that idiot writer?

This is what i wrote if anyone is interested:
What a surprise, you close down the comments section where us aspergians can rebuke the OFFENSIVE claims by your idiot writer who is clearly not qualified to be able to write on such a matter, yet the offensive and insulting article remains???!
Why remove the comments section which is our only way to argue the fact that we are not all diseased, genetically abnormal ret*ds?
I expect an answer, but how likely is it that I will ever see one?
It also states that you don't have to have sex and that sometimes it is just handed via a tube to the recipients. Again you know NOTHING about this business as it is in this country and are comparing it to some causual sex site like Craigslist. This guy is advertising AS A DONOR and taking their money for a specific service (his sperm). If he lies about his medical history and background under that premise. He should go to jail for that.
If I had sex (protected or not) with some random person that I met at the bar, he is required by law to tell me about HIV if he is affected. This is common sense. If he does not tell me, I am still a victim. It doesn't matter what your person feelings are about me having sex with a relative stranger. These women did nothing wrong. They sought out a service using the Internet. Seeking services from the internet is very common today.
BTW: I am seeking to have my house worked on by some random person I found on the internet this week as opposed to the retail store down the street. I am taking every precaution to assure he is liscensed, bonded and insured. If he steals from me, am I to blame too?

I would not answer this either. It insults the writer but doesn't say anything. What "specifically" is offensive to you again?

What is offensive to me is any writer for a national newspaper who would make such biased, uneducated and inflammatory claims without backing it up with any kind of reasoning that a specialist doctor could give.
If I stated categorically that since you are a female; judging by your avatar that you are an inferior species due to your gender and have no right to be in the workplace then you would have a hissy fit, and rightly so.
If I stated that I met one black man on a dark alley and he mugged me and therefore all black men are thieves and lack the intelligence to do anything constructive with their lives and belong in jail then the next black man to read it would have a hissy fit and rightly so.
If I stated that every muslim in the world was a terrorist and deserved to be in Guantanamo Bay then every muslim would have a hissy fit and rightly so.
If I stated that every blind or deaf person had retardation simply because they cannot see or hear then they would have a hissy fit and rightly so.
Making any statement at all, especially from a writer of a national newspaper HAS to be backed up with fact and should not discriminate against a group of people, regardless of whether they think they are too ret*d in any way to speak out.
Now, I know my post is going to piss off a lot of people and I accept that, but there is absolutely NO excuse for him saying that we are infected.
That is what pisses me off the most, if he had actually done his research or spoken to a doctor first then he might have got his facts right, but instead he decided to post untrue statements that cover the whole spectrum.
Where in that written piece did he ever state that certain aspergians or autistic people possess phenomenal skills that far outstrip those of so-called normal people?

Well, good luck, KFisher, I hope the guy is a good person. I usually consult the yellow pages and go by info I see on the ads. I've had good experiences that way with plumbers, etc.
Anyway, I was referring exclusively to the country in the Daily Mail, Norway or Netherlands, I believe. People need to be more cautious is all I'm saying.
Don't know how. This works in the US as I have never looked into it. The Daily Mail covers European matters.

newspaper writer is insensetive and sensationalist
male donor is a moron
female recipients are morons for doing this
those kids are doomed to a sub par quality of life now because of this.
Don't tell me it isn't true, don't give me that crap about little autistic professors and finding a job in your special interest, we all know that's uncommon - for the most part we are an unhappy unemployed harrassed bunch and I wouldn't wish it on 22 babies on the off chance that one of them turns out to be a prodigy and the rest live confusing meaningless lonely hard lives.
That's..just how it is

Have you done your research? It is actually a very sound practice to insist that a sperm donor be honest about ANY genetic disorder they possess as well as things such as race. If I am a white person and donate sperm telling the receiver that I am black THAT would be a crime in exactly the same way except that being black is NOT a disorder. Aspergers IS classified as a genetic disorder which actually makes this case significantly worse. This is not about the writer IMHO and the writer is actually not far off. The writer is simply stating facts that can be found on any number of websites and professional publications about autism. Just because you are not affected by a lack of imagination or lack of speech doesn't mean that Autism is NOT a disorder that carries these things as symptoms. This article is not supposed to be an autism advocacy piece and it is not intending to support your misplaced "Aspie Pride". Face it folks. Autism largely sux. It is causing a whole hell of a lot of financial and emotional pain in this world. Of course we are not to blame for that but we also do not need to be out procreating it deceitfully or attacking anyone who views autism as a disorder.
Your post and letter exemplify what people mean when they say, "Autistic people are their own worst advocates". It says nothing useful or educational and is filled with misplace emotion... Please speak only for yourself in such future correspondences... (Take out the "us apergarians" statements)

I too am referring to the country this happened in. My question to you is this.... Do you actually KNOW the risk in THAT COUNTRY with doing business this way? Do you know how many successful incidents occur to these fraudulent ones? If you do not KNOW these answers, then all your judgement may well be misplaced. EVERYTHING we do businesswise has risk. You could just as easy hire a crook from the yellow pages (which is hardly distributed anymore btw) as from Craigslist here in the US. It is NOT stupid for anyone to hire from Craigslist. That person simply has to be aware of the risks. Same as this situation.
You are saying MUCH more than "people need to be cautious" btw. You are making statements about the women being stupid and passing pretty harsh judgement WITHOUT the facts to back those statements IMHO. From what we know of this story, those women and the children are the victims and the women get double victimized in that they do not get the same treatment by their govt systems because of their sexual preference. This is sad on more than one level...

Yeah, I know fairly well how it works (it was in the Netherlands) and it basically is a casual sex thing, except with the conscious goal of reproduction. The whole point is that they went outside of the standard routes of procuring a sperm donor. This is the kind of risk you take, because such sites are unlikely to have a good client protection system.
Update: I checked the website he supposedly used to contact the mothers (Link for those who can read Dutch). There are three types of sperm donors in the Netherlands: A-Donors, which are completely anonymous (this is not possible anymore because it has been made against the law as the child needs to be able to know its father), B-donors, which are registered sperm donors and C-donors, which are donors that are found by the people who want a child. There are various sites which help people come into contact with these C-donors, but it is a person's own responsibility to ask about STD's and heritable diseases. Essentially, there's no legal framework for this: for the law, it's the same as casual sex.

Now why couldn't this lady have been given the article to write?

Of course it is not as sensationalist as the other story, but at least she got her facts straight and managed to write it in a way that didn't come off like she had condemned them as defects.
Woah, I didn't say anyone was stupid. I was commenting exclusively on the content of the Daily Mail, not the entire industry of surrogacy and artificial insemination. I am sure there are many successful incidents. They, however, were not mentioned in the article so I can't comment on those.
I never said hiring from Craigslist was stupid, just risky. I have a formula I use for the Yellow pages and it hasn't let me down yet. I make sure the business meets my criteria before I call. Following this criteria check list has always worked for me.
The yellowpages can be found on the internet but it doesn't count as true internet to me because it was once a publication, still is in some parts of the country.
LOTS of couples undergo artificial insemination, not just women who have female partners. It's a difficult process in the Netherlands because of costs and time but women should not be so desparate as to put themselves at great risk by interviewing dubious characters on the internet hoping they will perhaps provide them a means to a baby. Perhaps the system needs reviewing and overhauling so women can go to clinics and go that route, even though it's true, someone with Asperger's can always lie on their application at clinics. Then, there's the issue of people with AS who don't even know it. What if they donate sperms or eggs? It's not just a matter of knowing one is an Aspie then lying on the application. Sometimes people honestly don't know. Whenever someone has a child, there's no guarantee said child will be perfect. It's part of the unconditional love thing. You have to accept the cards you have been given and make the best of your hand.
