I have no problem recognizing people's faces as long as they're seven feet tall with a long red beard. Other than that, I'm hopeless unless I know the person really well. I often get confused in movies because I can't tell which characters I'm watching. I'm fine with names, though.

But what happens if you meet several people who are seven feet tall and have long red beards? Can you tell them apart? ;)

I'm very bad at faces. After I've been introduced to someone new, I'll have to meet them another half a dozen times before I recognise them by sight. And even after that, I can be thrown by seeing them with a different hairstyle, or wildly different clothes, or somewhere where I didn't expect to see them - ie, I might have reached the point where I'll recognise a colleague within my place of work, but if I then saw them in a store, I wouldn't recognise them.

Like krex said, though, I'm usually quite good at recognising actors on TV, maybe because you spend so much time looking directly at them. I can visualise my favorite actors in my head, whereas I have difficulty bringing up a picture of someone I know in real life.

I remember faces just fine if I've had sufficient interraction with the person. I have trouble with films and TV though, if the characters don't look very different from each other I get hopelessly lost as to who is who.

I never really thought about it until lately, and I would have to say that I am average. I can remember faces quite well, but I have problems with details at times. I have been in a few situations where I thought that someone on television was someone else, and it turned out to be untrue. I also would not be the person to ask if someone needed help with determining facial contours and stuff. As far as names, I remember names fairly well.
