I am absolutely a perfectionist. Sometimes it actually hurts me more than it helps. For example, if I have a lot of homework it takes me much longer to do it than it does for others. Mostly because I want every small detail to be perfectly done, while others will suffice with "just enough." Often there is barely a grade difference. Or let's say I have a math test; I'll solve the problem; check the problem; solve it a different way; then check it another way at least 3 or 4 times. In timed tests, this actually hurts me because the first few problems I'll do this; lag behind, then I must rush the last few causing issues. Often however, if I notice that I am doing more than is necessary I will stop. Unfortunately that happens rarely.

I'm a perfectionist in areas that I'm particularly interested in, but very far from it in most other areas.

I am a perfectionist with anxiety, and it makes for a difficult life.

I won't try something new if I think I won't be good at it right away.

I get stressed out at work because I think I should be able to fix\answer\do everything right all the time.

I have trouble enjoying my hobbies because I need to get it 100% perfect, so I'm always trying to analyse everything to make sure I'm doing it right. If I'm not doing it right, I get anxious and become obsessed about fixing it.

I'm like that as well but I always though of it as OCD instead of perfection with anxiety.

Yes, I have been my whole life. It was even pointed out by others, usually said in the positive, which I thought was weird because I always associated perfectionism with the negative!

I believe so. Since studying mental health, I've been deeply tapping in to the Aspergers mind and I believe it may be an evolutionary adaptation to slow down the damage that today's society is causing the planet. Most Aspies I've spoken to, and myself, have an overcaring and overthinking mind and we get upset easily if we can't deliver our expectations. We tend to get stressed with illogical people and actions that seem careless or selfish. We always try to consider everybody and are better at things that take more time and attention to detail. We hate being rushed. When we are pressured, we do poorly because we get anxious that we can't give something full attention, then we get stressed and upset with others for pressuring us and ourselves for not being able to perfect it. We'd rather be left alone so we can fully dissect the problem and get the right solution. All of these traits are hardwired into the Aspergers brain but quite often, the comorbid anxieties and other illnesses present from trying to express these traits whilst trying to keep up with the fast pace world we live in, become less apparent.

I am. I am very hard on myself when I do less than my best.
