Same here, though mainly for the tinnitus rather than other noises (there's no other noises where I live other than the bugs).

(Tinnitus from accidentally knocking my ear protectors half off during an indoor pistol competition and not realizing it -- .45 ACP in a concrete building is...pain.)

I discovered ear plugs a couple of years ago and sleep much better with them. They wouldn't help with tinnitus though since what you need is a real source of sound to cover up the one your brain is manufacturing.

I mostly replied though since "White Noise" is what my Chinese wife calls most of my talking... She (and you) would probably object to me sitting next to you and talking while you sleep, though I guess I could record it.

I have an app on my Kindle that plays sounds to help you sleep.

One of them is the sound of a box fan.

I highly recommend it if you have an e-reader. The app is "Sleepy Time."

Yep. Ive been using a fan in my room for months now, I cant sleep without it. The thing is, I literally cant function without either some sort of white noise or music. When everything is completely silent, I cant concentrate, or relax, or do anything.

Sometimes, somehow, a hair gets caught in the blades. I can hear this when it happens and it drives me crazy.

Tinnitus is caused by a hearing loss, even a slight one. Ppl who have damage to their hearing later in life, compaired to infanthood or early childhood, are more prone to tinnitus. What happens is the brain realizes it is having trouble hearing, so it tries to turn up the volume, but when it does that it causes tinnitus.
just so you know.

Tinnitus is actually not only caused by hearing loss, though that's the most common reason. Actually, many people who have hypersensitive hearing also have tinnitus, caused by some other method. I've had tinnitus (off and on ringing, not constant), in tones that I hear (and hate), for my entire life, it was actually only recently that I found out that this wasn't true for most people.

Interesting. I've had ringing in my ears for as long as I can remember.

We have dragged out our fan again awhile back just for the background noise. We live in an area where it's rural, yet a lot of night noises interfere with my sleeping. Dogs barking, cars the next street over. The white noise helps a lot. We used the fan living up north too.

Tonight my gf woke me up thinking she heard something so i ran out the door with knives to "clear the area" police style in the yard.
I did this very professionally and logically yet she got mad at me for running outside when she was in the bedroom with the magnum saying she had to protect the fort. aiiiiii

Likely a stray cat jumped over the fence and made a clatter, causing the dog across the street to bark.
Our yard was clear of humans. =)

Sometimes though it weirds me out as this isn't the best area to live in. We have a problem with junkies and the Sheriffs are always trying to clean up the area. Our little patch of neighborhood has good folks thankfully, yet still even our neighbors who run a volunteer services for veterans got robbed by some drug addicted woman they helped. Broad daylight. The cops were females that came and they solved it in less than 1 and half hours it was awesome police work!
