Only a minor food issue here.

I eat only food I have made myself from fresh ingredients. I prefer organic food.

I find fastfood and convenience food (is this really a word for that?) etc. very suspicious in culinaristic, health and ideological/ethical way.

When I'm immersed in something I forget to eat. When I'm upset, I can't eat. When I'm anxious and overwhelmed I have no appetite. I'm pretty skinny.

I'll eat only about 5-6 different foods sometimes for months at a time. They all have to be natural, organic, healthy, and virtually unprocessed, or else I won't eat them.
I've had "orthorexia" in the past-ridid obsession with eating only healthy food. But I think that is a load of bull, Americans classify everything is a "disease" just so they can have an excuse to try to drug you up. Cancer is a disease, wanting to eat only healthy things is not. *rant over*

But yeah, I have major food issues, not so much from the textures or flavor of the food themselves, but due to my need for ritual/control/etc stemming from my Aspergers.

When I'm nervous I lose my appetite, when I'm at school or work I don't eat because I forget.

I avoid most foods due to texture, such as tomatoes and sweetcorn. I tend to eat the same things all the time. My current favourite food is weetabix with strawberry yoghurt. (instead of milk)

When I was growing up, I wouldn't eat food if two different food types (i.e. carrots and noodles) touched on my plate. To me that was a contaminated area that could not be eaten. I have mostly grown past that although I still try to divide my food up on the plate.

I have some texture issues with foods. For example, I won't eat asparagus because of the texture. I also have a hard time eating foods such as Cheese Its or Triscuits because when I chew them, they can rub against my teeth in the wrong way (same reason I hate brushing my teeth) and I have problems eating them. I have resolved this with Triscuits because the pattern on Triscuits is cut both ways. I will eat with the dominant grain and this usually allows me to eat them without much difficulty.

That sounds delicious. I will have to try that sometime.

You're welcome. :) I use Activia pouring yoghurt. Normal yoghurt might be a bit too thick.

Wow. I'm chris, I'm NT and I have an Aspie girlfriend. I read through all of these pages and this makes sense.

PLEASE, [b]help me with this

My GF picks food apart, like sushi and in general, she doesn't like a lot of food. Being from the NT Nation/FOODIE Tribe we see things differently and I desire to show my affection for her by taking her out to eat 'good' food. I now realize the error of my ways.

I had thought to myself, "man! maybe I should just get her plain food. But that would show that I do not 'care' about her [NT/FOODIE Tribe Custom]*, that I lack culture and sophistication [NT/FOODIE Tribe Custom] and that I am gernerally without taste, zeal and passion for life [NT/FOODIE Tribe Custom]'

*I don't want to believe yet that we are from different planets but differenet tribes so we see the world differently->hence the nat'l geographic talk about tribes.

THEE MOST difficult thing is that my family [members of the Foodie Tribe] love food!

My dad's greek american, my grandmother's family had a busy cafe downtown. My grandfather woke at 9:00 am, tended to his garden (HE LOVES FOOD) and at 11:00 am he STARTED dinner! The man spent all day on dinner. He'd watch cooking shows and SWEAR at the tv because he got so passionate. My mom's side is Italian and they're no better, they're also part of the foodie tribe. They too spend all day on dinner. I LOVE food, and when I retire, I want to spend my days like my grandfather.

BUT, I really love my GF and she's from a different tribe, the Aspies and to them food is painful. What are we to do?

I was a very, very fussy eater as a child. My parents tried to the point of giving up, so I was quite unhealthy. I'm not as bad now, but there's still lots of room for improvement.

I'm quite sensitive to food texture, for example I don't eat most meat because it's too thick or fatty and very chewy to me. I have to spit it out. Even sometimes when I eat the meat I can normally eat (mostly just chicken) it's still too chewy for me. I had this issue with vegetables. I can't eat them boiled, but if you put them all together in a blender and make a nice, thick soup I absolutely love it. Same with fruit.

I also had an issue at school where I never ate lunch. I don't really know exactly why. It might have been something to do with not liking to eat in front of people.

Sorry for the long 'book' of a post. I also want to cook a meal for my girlfriend, it's how foodie tribesman show affection. I'm affraid and confused. I'm starting to think and believe that she would indeed prefer 'plain' vegatables instead of some ellaborate foodie tribe dish.

Please laugh, but for a member of the foodie tribe 'plain' broccili for example means steamed broccili cocked in water with olive oil and salt. After steaming, the broccili would be salted, covered in copious amounts of fresh lemon juice and perhaps a drizzle of melted butter or virgin olive oil.

Please understand, this is HONESTLY 'plain' in my foodie tribe.

I'm extremely picky, amd there are only maybe 20 things I will eat. If something has a weird texture I won't eat it, and if it has any kind of external sauce, the sauce has to be heated. I also eat out almost daily, at only 4 restaurants, on a roughly repeating cycle. I get the same thing each time I go to each restaraunt, and the people there don't even ask me what I want anymore because it hasn't changed since I was like 8.

I understand most of this, but what do you mean by ethical problems with the food?

2nd post here. This jumps right out at me. For years, I have not been able to eat the tip of a french fry. In fact, I leave a small corner in just about every piece of food I touch. I have NEVER been able to eat anything around lots of people and noise. Now, I am just starting to work on some techniques to help me eat larger portions. I realize that my food on my plate is too big at times and "intimidates" me. This pisses me off, that something like food can intimidate me. I get angry at the plate of food that looks too big to eat. So, I have tried having a smaller plate in front of that plate to put smaller portions on, several times througout the day. I have become somewhat of a pescatarian lately(if you include filets o fish). I just find fish really easy to digest.
I have been skinny as hell for my whole life. I am starting to gain a little weight by using ensure nutrition shakes. I've learned that a little bit of salty foods, if I don't have heartburn can increase my appetite a little bit.
