I'm 25, recently I got asked which class of middle school I am (12-15 year old kids attend it).

I wonder if it's just because of the way we act, people perceive us as being younger, and maybe that gets confused with the way we look.

There is the neoteny theory that suggests an arrested genetic development at an earlier stage caused by various feedback mechanisms. It provides explanations for a great many observed characteristics, both outward and inside the brain structure.

yes thankfully. (edit: thought this was a personal question i'm not sure if it's true generally for asperger people but i'd put it over 50% that it is)
also i can't even grow a beard so i don't require much shaving which is good too

I owned my own house and people would knock on the front door and ask to speak to my Mum.

I started a new job at age 29 and somebody asked me if it was my first job as they thought I was 16.

Until I was 50 I had 20 something year old Women chatting me up.

I think so. I'm taken for being much younger, even as much as 15-20 years younger than my chronological age (I'm in my mid 30's).

I get told that I look 16 or 17 even though I'm 21.

My Dad didn't use to look his age but now that his hair has started to go grey it's getting easier to tell.

People usually perceive me as younger than I am.

When I was 22 I went to sword store in the mall near me. These middle school girls were in there and kept watching me while I was looking at the cut and thrust sword I wanted to buy. They were pretty aggressive about trying to 'hook me up' with their friend who was with them. They didn't believe me I was 22 and basically started acting like I was being mean to their friend until I got annoyed and showed my driver's license. They thought I was 15 or so.

I look older than I actually am. Most likely the result of hard living and a bad thyroid

Yeah, I'm constantly mistaken for being much younger than I am. In my case that's probably more related to my being transmale, though. I sort of look prepubescent.

People ask me what grade I am in. Last week I entered a teen drop off centre(it turns out the event I went for had been cancelled) and no one gave me a second look. I joined a youth group where I am at the verge of ageing out of and again no one questioned my age. I am thin yet still have cheeks, no lines/wrinkles although still have acne, I also shave my arms so maybe that's part of why. Feminine people look juvenile I suppose.

yep, i was 36 this summer, but a couple on a work cruise that i was talking to who were relatively recent college grads thought i was basically one of their peers.

i like to say we're all children, just with different formative decades.

Only if they're men. Androgyny will often take a few years off your perceived age.

I get that all the time...I am 22, yet people assume I am about 17 years old :( I am surprised that this happens to many of you - there has to be some kind of correlation.

Last time I got dragged into some club and at the bar, 2 drunk jerks were trying to pick on me...they touched me like they were gay and said mean stuff, I ignored them until I got my drink. But what really got to me is that they said I looked like freaking 14!! ! :x

I know I do, I can pass for like 16 or younger and I am freaking 25....feel like sometimes that contributes to people not taking me seriously.
