A fun test (well I thought it was fun anyway)

I've got 91% / 92 tests (I thought it will automatically stop, so I didn't count the tests :D).

Relying on my first impression rather than rational analysis led to better results in my case.

Second time I did 25 tests and got 92% in order to "normalize" my results with others, so I think it's quite accurate test.

However, I had to learn how to focus on this test, so my results were worse at the beginning (from 75% to 80%). Anyone here share this feeling?

I didn't have to much problem focusing on it from the start. I just looked at the screen, the dots popped up, and I knew the answer.

You might have noticed there's a difference in the ratio of the 2 colors from trial to trail. The closer the dots are in number the harder it is to know the correct answer. I wish that thing tracked to ratio over the 25 trials.

Anyway, the score here were pretty high and it's unclear whether arithmetic skills are related to how well people do on this test. I'm still wondering if people on the spectrum are just naturally better at subitizing. I found a better test for this that tracks stats. I'll post it sometime tomorrow (or later today now that I look at the clock).

When I looked at the dots a kind of buzzing or beeping sound went off in my head, which I would liken to internal dialogue but without using actual words. It helped me to get a better image of the picture when the actual picture was gone.

The human average is seriously 75%? It looks like pretty much everyone here got over that. However, the statistics here on this post aren't reliable because people who get under 75 may or may not be inclined to post their scores.

200 tests at 88%, thought I'd be thorough. Half the time I wasn't paying that much attention.

I say I'm reasonable at maths. Enough to do double digit sums in my head if I really concentrate.

I got 92% with twenty-five.

But then again I need sleep. I might come back to it in a few hours.

84% over 45 or so. I repeated with 58 tests and got 87%. Generally I missed out when it was a 5 to 6 spread.

No idea what you'd consider my maths abilities. I'm pretty good at unconscious estimations though. I can convert pounds to dollars and miles to kilometres really well instantly.

I got one wrong, so 96%.

Basic arithmetic ability - above average. I can do more than I think I can - I surprise myself.

I'm very good with mathematics such as algebra, calculus, geometry, etc. But only when I'm not under stress. That's how I skipped three grades worth of math and taught myself pre-algebra to skip yet another grade, yet was way below average on the SAT. Who cares about stupid standardized tests - I'm working on teaching myself as much higher math as possible, just for fun. Was at the top of my philosophy of math class this last semester.
When I get stressed or overstimulated my mind shuts down and I start noticing useless patterns in my environment. I think I'm visually stimming. So then I run out of time and make stupid mistakes. So, standardized testing hasn't been accurate as of yet. Going to therapy for that.

But little intuitive tests like this one - they're fun.

I'll tell you a secret - don't stare too hard at the screen. Just try to see the whole screen in general - RELAX. Think soft eyes - that's how you see all the dots and get a better perception for their number.

I noticed that that is what I was doing, too.

I have read that some people with ASD use peripheral vision differently the normal. Specifically I remember a piece about a young man who had unusual pinball skills and they attributed his skill to peripheral vision after some clinical tests. I suspect that keeping the eyes focused on a point is an advantage on this test over scanning across/top to bottom. This is just a guess.

This seems to depend a lot on concentration and attention. When I sat really close to the monitor and fixed my eyes on one point while doing the tests, I managed 100% out of 25. When I sat back and didn't concentrate heavily, I got 80% out of 25. I seem to start out great, but lose concentration after 10-15 tests unless I force myself to keep it by fixing my eyes (almost staring, but not quite) and sitting close. In a clinical test setting, I'd probably be closer to the laidback result due to stress and external factors like light, sound and so on. I also wouldn't be able to tell the personnel to start the test over because I lost concentration...

This would probably make for a great "party" game, by the way. It woke my Duck Hunt instinct.

84%

I got three or four trials wrong in a row.

Sometimes I was confused because the circles were larger, but less.

I scored 92% after 25...

I was pretty good at high school math but never went onto college level.
