Earplugs. Look for high-fidelity ones, like musician's earplugs, which have an attenuation more even across the range of frequencies. I use these at concerts I go to and shows I play in, when I'm watching other bands perform. They often give them out free at the door, if it's a big enough venue, although these are just normal disposable earplugs and not high quality high-fidelity earplugs. Either way, this means that others should be using hearing protection there, so you should be inconspicuous anyway.
Besides, your hearing is much more important than being inconspicuous. You only get one set of ears and once you screw them up they're gone for good.
