Since I love doing crosswords, as well as reading and learning new languages my vocabulary is doing fairly well or I could say my knowledge of vocabulary is pretty satisifactory. For example, I took a neuropsychology test earlier in the year and I was pleasantly surprised at my understanding of most of the vocabulary words. Doing crosswords and reading often may have paid off, as well as studying for a master's degree the past 3 years. Now for a life 8) When speaking I do not often use jargon or more formal words unless I know the person will understands it.

Sometimes I do the opposite of this when I talk to the manager of the deli that I work in. She has an ego the size of Russia, and occasionally I like to try and keep her in her place. I am often absolutely incredulous when I hear the way she talks to people.

My vocabulary is quite large, and it is noticeable in my writing. Sometimes I use big words in my speech...when I speak.... I have far better control over my vocabulary when I put it in written form.

Big. Always has bee, always will be. If people nowadays had the chance, they should grab a book, curl up in a chair and read it. Internet articles are good too!

I would say it's fairly big, or should I say moderately substantial.

My vocabulary is fairly large considering I have an well founded and quite obsessive love of reading and studying mythical languages. When my psychologist gave me the Weschler's Adult Intelligence Scale I tested in the 99.9 percentile for vocabulary in my age group.

Now if only my professors could forgive me for being wordy....

When I was younger I used big words but ever since I just stopped going to school and started homeschooling my vocabulary has been deteriorating. :( So has my math. I am going to start studying. I even bought some flash cards for the math. I'm thinking of just reading more to learn bigger words-that's how I learned my vocab growing up.

My vocabulary is different like for example instead of "or" I say "nor" instead of "either" pronounced as "eether" I pronounce it as "I-ther.' When writing instead of "color" I want to write "colour" instead of "cream" I want to write "creme."

I think that one of the biggest limited in the size of our vocabulary is the people we are talking to. If we use words that the people we are talking do don't know or misinterpet, then I think we tend to quit using those words.

For example, try to use the word niggardly to describe someone in a conversation and see if the other person understands what you meant.

I find my vocabulary...adequate? I do believe that a large vocabulary enhances a person's experience in life.

I read about a study once. It involved the perception of color, and its relation to language.

There are cultures/languages in which there is one word which encompasses red/orange/pink. Another word that means dark blue/green. In these cultures, the majority of people will experience red/orange/pink as a single color. They truly perceive this as a single color, where we might see red, orange, and pink as individual hues. Further along the spectrum are artists who are fluent in language representing very specific shades. A person who was not raised or trained in this language will, sure, see dark blue/ light blue. They may even be able to say, "Hm...that blue is a little..green-ish?" if they are very aware. But, it will not be the same as the person who knows cerulean, royal blue, teal, azure, cobalt, etcetera.

After reading this, I've found myself very thankful for my vocabulary, as I do believe (and hope that there is truth in this) that it has enhanced my life experience.

I think not big enough, mostly because I don't have a dictionary in the house I think. Say I find some word that I can get the gist of from the context but I don't recognise it.. like yeah, wheres my completely non-existant dictionary? I certainly wont stop reading to check online so.. yeah bigger than most peoples I think just not big enough.
