You're not supposed to see anything but the pattern. It's just that when you look at it the right way (eyes pointed far and focused near), some parts of the pattern look closer than others, and the parts that look closer can make a recognizable shape.

i couldn't see a darn thing and got frustrated (i never could make these things work), but then bucephalus said, "you may need to almost cross your eyes a little bit but not really."

so i went really close and crossed my eyes and i saw it. so easy. it didn't pop OUT, it popped IN, but nonetheless, i finally saw it!! !! !

I could never do those and they hurt my eyes. I used to suspect they were a conspiracy. Turns out I have absolutely no depth perception because there is a huge difference in my vision in each eye.

I always found these interesting optical illusions. The principle they work on is quite simple when you boil it down and I can draw them by hand.

Oh yes, I can do those. The animated one in Kirostun's post was fascinating.

I love these things! Never had any problem seeing them once I was able to do it the first time. It's tough trying to explain how to do it to someone else who can't do it, though.

I can' t see the text one. I better take a break before my head starts hurting. They are so much fun once you get into the groove of it, but finding it takes me forever. :?
