When I was diagnosed with Aspergers at 13, I was tested with a diagnostic tool called "ADOS" plus an IQ test. The IQ scores were high and the ADOS score was 6. Scores 7 and under = You're on the autistic spectrum. So I'm quite high functioning, but it really depends. Only a year ago I went to a special ED school (which sucked) and 2 years ago I had depression and suicide thoughts.

Even though I go to a normal school now + therapy and I have good grades and a couple of friends, I still struggle with TREMENDOUS anxiety which can make me go completely non verbal and with exact flashbacks to how I felt in my depression in seconds.

So I have days where you hardly notice that I have AS and days where I go non verbal and unable to do anything. Thankfully there's fewer of those days than there used to be.

I'm definitely high functioning, but it will take some time for me to cope with preparing cooked meals for the time being, as well as finding and maintaining a job relevant to my qualifications. I have pretty poor manual dexterity, so once I achieve independence it may be necessary to contact an engineer now and then for me to accomplish home maintenance tasks.

Daniel's post that I've just quoted breaks down things quite well, so I'll do mine similarly.

Work: Do work, only part-time though. On a partial unemployment benefit. I'm not sure I could handle full-time work outside of my special interests. If I could find enough work (problems with interviews and executive functioning issues cause problems with that) I could support myself, but I'd never be well off.

Academically: no problems. In high school my marks ended up wildly uneven according to what I was interested in. In university I was studying my primary interest. I did fail one semester, but that was due to depression, not AS, and I ended up graduating on time anyway.

Can feed and groom myself.

I have one friend in person, plus a fair few people that I get along with well (mainly in my orchestra) but who aren't actual friends. I have a better chance of getting along with nerdy people, academic types and hobbyists. I couldn't handle having a lot of friends as socialising is exhausting for me. I tend to lose friends because I neglect friendships. I have a friend online; he is awesome and very easy to get on with.

Can do basic housework; can't tidy my room though. I live independently in a house that is owned by my parents.
