I'm glad that the evening was agreeable, especially with how much work you put into this. Sounds like you should have been the guest of honour.

You may like to consider that she has a condition or disorder of her own which affects her behaviour.

Thank you very much for your kind words. Yes, she definitely has a problem!

If you ever feel the need, you could "accidently" CC her on a mail to Christa about dealing with the bad boss.

...Clare has a diagnosed condition which affects her behaviour - however she doesn't take it out on her boss or behave unprofessionally, if that were the case then she should not have a position of power over other members of staff or should at least be able to contain herself...

I agree with what you say to a point.

There is nothing in anything I have said that condones or excuses her behaviour either.

If you feel there is then it is of your own making.

I think Neilson_Wheels was trying to tell OP that the reason the boss acted unprofessionally was because she (the boss) may have her own social deficits/disability. Although we would all like to fire her, the fact is that she IS the manager, and there are many unprofessional managers out there who continue to manage unprofessionally. When I was young I was oddly enough give a position as an associate manager in a branch of a large retail chain. I did not have good people skills and was let go because of a lazy union worker who rather sat and chatted all day instead of doing something I asked her to do, then complained to the union about it. Perhaps my delivery was off when I asked her to do it, and perhaps I shouldn't have stood there staring her down waiting for her to get up from her chair and stop gabbing with the "customer" about non-retail issues. I was young and stupid, but I was given a chance and I have learned since then (that managing is not for me). Some people get to be a manager because they are good at something else that is important (like strategizing getting business versus managing other employees) but really great managers who are good at both skills are hard to come by and usually demand quite a bit of pay (that an arts organization might not be able to afford). Maybe the owner of the arts business hired HER (the unprofessional boss) with her deficits and all, because the owner was desperate to fill that spot and couldn't find anyone else for the pay. Now that would be ironic! LOL
