It's obvious from my screen name that I love cats! Cats are independent, yet rely on us to take care of them. My favorite cats are Siamese and tabbies. Prince, a Lynx point, is a combination of both.

My first cat was a Siamese and tabby combination. She was a very nice cat, but only liked me for some reason. Her mother was a Siamese show cat who mated with a cat she wasn't supposed to (a stray male tabby).

My other cat was a tabby who belonged to my dad. He loved the water and being bathed! Made it easier to wash him up when he got fleas, or if he got dirty rolling around in the garden. This was my favourite cat and he was friendly to just about anyone he met. He was really nice and well behaved, although he had a bad habit of sucking on fabric. He was found in an abandoned farm almost dead, and with no mom around. I've heard this sucking behaviour is characteristic of a kitten weaned from his/her mother too early. He had to be given away because my Dad couldn't take care of him anymore, and I'm not supposed to have cats at my place.

There are two cats that live in some house near my apartment complex, and they sometimes come around and howl outside my door. It all started when I left my door open on a hot summer day, and a cat walked into my apartment. Sometimes he brings his buddy too.

I like dogs and cats and animals in general. When I get out on my own I more likely to get a cat then a dog though because they are easier to take care of.

Both of my Siamese (both Lynx points), have had the suckling behavior. Samantha suckled on her stomach because she lost her mother when she and her brothers and sisters were only two weeks old. Prince, on the other hand, was suckled by his mother until he and his brothers were three months old. He used to suckle on the dog. Prince and Partner are still best friends, although Prince has outgrown the suckling habit.

I posted in this thread already, but not actually addressing the topic....

I love cats and have always loved cats. Cats are the best animal out there as far as I'm concerned. I have two cats right now, a white Manx and a blue bi-color Ragdoll. She sleeps under the covers with me. :)

I always hated dogs for a whole lot of reasons. Their barking is loud and frightens me, they often smell "doggy" which is gross, sometimes they jump up on me and that scares me too. I got bit a few times by random strangers dogs when I was a kid, so that helped reinforce it, and my younger brother got chewed up pretty bad (had to go to the hospital and get stitches) by a neighbor's dog.

A few months ago, I decided randomly, out of the blue, that I wanted to get a dog. The feeling didn't go away, so now I'm getting a dog in April. My cats are going to hate it.

For some reason, I connect with cats easier than I do with dogs. I love them both, though, and could not live without either.
Has anyone read Stanley Coren's book "Why We Love the Dogs We Do"? It explains how our personality dictates which dog breeds we love, hate, or tolerate and also discusses the personality profile of cat only people. It really made sense to me-even though I love dogs, there are some breeds I will never own because of their personality.

OGM cats, cloned cats? Please no!

That's pretty creepy.

We have four cats, but mine is Ray, the fattest cat in the entire world.

Don't forget the existence of the Cheshire cat, whose grin has always delighted me.

I like dogs, but cats seem more sentient to me.

I like all animals, but cats are my favorite. Another thing both of my Siamese have shared in common is that they loved the family dogs. Samantha hated other cats, but loved dogs, perhaps because she grew up with dogs. Prince loves everyone, but Partner, our dog, is his best friend.

Other things Prince loves that Samantha also loved include water and birdwatching. Must be a Siamese thing!

In any household I've been in with both cats and dogs the cats use the dogs to take out their frustrations so the dogs are really skiddish whenever a cat walks by.
