Every time I read something like this, some AS related thing that fits me 100%, I get a little shock. I mean this "escape into an imaginary world".

I exaggerate a lot, too. When telling a story, I sometimes feel that a good story is more important than sticking to the facts.
However, I find it very hard to lie about important things, especially when asked directly. Well, I can do it in extreme cases, but it never feels ok, and never looks natural.
Actually, this quote totally resolves one of my little problems, namely, how can I be such a good liar and, at the same time, such a bad liar?

I can relate to that. I sometimes feel like the literal truth is dull and doesn't illustrate my point as well. In the past I concocted stories more often than I do now. I'm not sure it's really an aspie thing though. It seems like autobiographical writers get in trouble with this all the time.

Not to be a spoiler but I watched the movie "Life Of Pi" and it kind of touches on this topic.

The thing that struck me in that quote was using escape into imagination to adapt under stress conditions. I related this to daydreaming rather than telling stories. It's always been a huge problem for me. When things get tough, I literally escape to a different reality. I've blamed myself for it all my life but never thought it could be a symptom of anything. Although, this might be not a specifically AS thing either...

As to autobiographies, well, you're right :) But I think sometimes the writers pursue more practical purposes, e.g. like improving their reputation. "Everybody lies" :)

I wish I could daydream more easily. I did more in the past. I'm more of an analytical as opposed to fantasy person a lot of the time but I get bored with myself. I think about myself too much and it doesn't help me really. Music is something that can sort of take me places, mostly the visual images I get, but I have to devote my whole attention to it which isn't possible if there's other stuff going on around me.
