Something I've also wondered, do others hold their pencils strangely? I've often been told that they way I hold a pencil is strange.

I get extreme hand cramps as well after a short time while hand writing. After years of this I analyzed what I was doing and realized that I was gripping the pencil extremely tight. I cannot change that grip style though even after I knew that I was doing it. My handwriting was also very poor in school so my folks made me write sentences for 1 hour every day after school for years. My handwriting did not improve.

Also, I just remembered that unless the paper has lines, I will always slope my sentences down to the right. Does anyone else do this?

My handwriting is deplorable. Fortunately they invented word processing and I became very good at that. So from always being in trouble at school before the PC era, I went to university as a mature student, invested in an early word processor and sailed through. I agree with the people here who just don't see the point of spending hours trying to write in an acceptable manner.

When I was in the tenth grade my English teacher asked me if I was a doctor. I said no, she said that I sure wrote like one. My handwriting has always been terrible, to the point one of my friends called me Mr. Blubblahblah since my signature is indecipherable.

I'd have better results with Morse code, smoke signals and beating sticks together than with my handwriting.

I have terrible handwriting. My parents used to make me practice all the time and it never really improved. I really don't care much anymore because I can type at 75 wpm so... you know... everything is getting digitized anyway.

My hands still burn because Special ed teachers forced me to practice for hours at a time. My other autistic friend struggled with hand writing not nearly as much as I did. Sometimes, my hand twitches and I drop my pencil, which is a really annoying tic when I'm taking a test.

I also created a code using obscure symbols. I write better with that than I do with phonic/Chinese alphabet.

My handwriting is terrible. I used to get the "you should be a doctor" remarks when I was young. A lot. My printing is bad, but my cursive is readable only by me. My signature looks like a random scribble. Word processing was a godsend!

My handwriting now is mostly printing, with some cursive elements thrown in, like using the cursive capital letters for F, L, J, and G; and sometimes some lower-case letters.
