ive never been diagnosed as a child because the signs were lumped in with 'learning difficulties' label and i was 'too mild on the scale to be consideredautistic because you were verbal' i didnt really exhibit it at school too much either (well despite frequent comments re being extremely unsocial  no its not bullying miss... its cos i want to be alone :) you got problem with kids wanting to enjoy their own company hmm? ) so it was never picked up by paediatricians(my mum never mentioned it to them- being an only child she thought and i quote 'it was you being you'), gps or teachers because they were all trained when all that was known was 'classic non verbal autism'. my current gp - an ex paediatrcian- having known me for awhile and seen me regularly agrees that my 'difficulties and from what you've said of your memories of childhood, could certainly be somewhere on ASD it wouldnt surprise me given your otherproblems because you do exhibit a fair number of traits subtly so i can see how teachers would have missed it. but there's no way of knowing unless you got diagnosed. but you seem to manage ok'. yes i manage 'ok' ...but sometimes i need coping mechanisms for frustration  just because you manage ok doesnt mean we dont struggle :? :( my AS quotient was 41 and my aspie quiz was 133/200 aspie and NT 61/200

Sounds like my early school years (before the bullying REALLY started). I wasn't hated or excluded I just preferred to play alone and nobody seemed to be interested in "my world". Everyone just thought I was shy and had hearing and writing problems. Of course, being alone was seen as a problem that needed correction just like how I printed with the "wrong" hand and was forced right.

To this day everyone denies it but yes, I remember it clearly. The teacher even said that you write with the same hand you have your fork in. That would explain why I had ATRICIOUS writing to the point I spent hours upon hours just to make it comparable to the other children when I was light years ahead otherwise. I am also one of the few baseball players who could only bat Left and throw Right. Back then the public schools were still run by the churches so most of the neighbourhood kids went to another school. It was probably a leftover from the religious teaching but I'm sure the motivation was harmless and secular: the teacher literally thought that all students have to write with their right hand to be successful. I fit the profile of a lefty perfectly... other than writing with my right hand.
