aspies "unusual eating habits"
I don't want to bore anyone with long drawn out details so I will just say yes, I have very unusual habits. As well, I am a VERY fussy eater and McDonalds McNuggets and Fries is about the only thing that DOESN'T make me sick at least some of the time. I recently overheard someone say "fussy eaters are just attention seekers" and I want to reach over and strangle that person. I am VERY self-conscious and VERY embarrassed about it and have become an expert at hiding my unusual habits from almost everyone. I damn well know this is the main reason all my relatives treated me like the black sheep as if I liked having a different meal from everyone else at Christmas
I rarely use utensils even at a sit down restaurant and never have condiments of any kind. Even the smell is enough to make me sick and I frequently have to eat before everyone else for that reason. People say I'm difficult to get along with but they don't realize I would rather starve than draw attention to myself and until recently I did just that. I was pencil thin as a child because I'm certain everyone just said to my parents "don't accommodate GHF if he gets hungry he will eat anything". I never did and would go a day or two without eating rather than try something new.
My current therapist thinks that I am a narcissist because "I think I'm A.S. so I can get attention" and also he thinks I do work in group therapy only to get attention. It's the same thing as your food pickiness, because the truth is I'd rather never see a therapist again in my life, and I'd rather never speak during group therapy.
Of course you can have A.S. and still have other personality disorders, but frankly I don't think regular "psychology" or the MMPI works on us too well.

Hi Serenaserenaserena
I do think your eating habits would count as unusual. But I can sympathise.
I usually eat the foods on my plate separately and in a particular order - usually from the foods I like least to the food I like the most. So I will eat all the peas first, then all the carrots, and last the meat. I will sometimes put mashed potato on meat (or mix it in if we have minced meat) but I hate mixing mashed potato with peas or carrots.
I am happy eating plain food - peanut butter sandwiches with butter but no other substances (no honey, jam/jelly, etc). I dislike salad sandwiches and hate beetroot (the COLOR! the COLOR!!). Plain food can be comforting.
I get anxious if someone offers me a sandwich they have put together - I make my own sandwiches so that I know what has gone into them. I am rather fussy. I will eat a salad in the appropriate situation (e.g. in a bowl as a meal), but I don't like salad ingredients in sandwiches. The exception would be lettuce and tomato on a steak sandwich - not that I eat those very often.
I buy exactly the same lunch every day. It saves time thinking about choices, and I like the particular lunch that I have been eating far the last 6-12 months. The shop doesn't even ask me what I want any more, they just put together my usual order when they see me turning up.
I am possibly not as particular as you are (and I am a lot older and have become broader in my tastes) but I still do get anxious about food being "wrong" - especially "wrong" combinations.
