Anybody with two hundred grand to spend on a house would be much better off buying some acreage somewhere way out in the sticks. At least in my experience, the best "AS community" is a community of one, and acreage allows for that. Distances are so great out here that I rarely ever see my neighbors. I have my own little world inside my head, and another on the ground. I think this is the best we can do.

That is my DREAM. My ideal situation. I will never have that kind of money, but if I did, that scenario is exactly what I'd be aiming for.

.

As our British poster noted, the problem isn't the price of the real estate so much as it is an almost total lack of any means to support one's self. It is also the case that if one moves to an unpopulated area, one doesn't need a huge amount of acreage.

Living the lifestyle I advocate, I can say that it is the ideal for aspies.

I'm working and supporting myself, but what I make, and my savings, will always be too small to ever get to own property or land. I'm self sufficient but only at survival level, I guess you could say.

But also, if I did have the cash to live in a truly isolated spot -- then what to do for work? Nothing and nobody would be nearby! I'd have to be independently wealthy -- win the lottery!

but then how would you meet spectrumites if you needed help?

I'm 51 and have never met a spectrumite yet, and I'm doing just fine. Again, I won't say I wouldn't want to me other aspies, just that it's not necessary.

Aspie community is an oxymoron. WP is good enough for me.

when you think you're doing alright not having met people on the spectrum, that means you're not putting needy people in your life and not caring for what they need.

i hope some of these aspies try to realize the needs of others. most spectrumites are capable of putting the needy into the equation than NTs are and i'm sure these aspies would love to join the "club".

In the AS community within an already existing community we are planning, we have come to the decision that being within easy access of buses, jobs, parks, etc. is important. That is why we will be selling our home, which is in the country, and buying one in a more populated area. [most likely Thornton, Colorado] We will be providing room and board at great prices and support each other in our particular strengths and weaknesses. We already have a few families with autist children interested in purchasing homes in the same neighborhood and we have plans to exponentially grow from there. We will be discussing and planning this in one of the workshops at our mini AS retreat {AutHaven] that will be in the mountains of Colorado in February of 2014. It will be 3 nights long and food, lodging, etc. will cost only $100 per person, payable at arrival. If you are interested in being a part of our community, or establishing a similar one in your area, please consider attending.

Yes, there is no need to build a complete new power system/water system/roads/parks/etc. when they already exist.

The employment side of the location "equation" appears to be the harder part of any location, but that's true anywhere.

my goal is to move needy spectrumites to viera so they can meet up and form a group together. and if you can't do viera, you could try California City, California. it's a developing town in the mojave desert.

think the best you can do is plant a seed :). ill keep your place in mind for the future.

Get your town to rename itself to aspieville, that'd be a good start and easy to remember.

HDLM, I am curious to the source of your information on Viera, FL and/or California City, CA. Are these locations you have direct and/or personal knowledge of, or were these selected based on some sort of news or internet reports?
