When I was feeling about as bad about my life as I ever have, a couple of weeks ago, I felt myself to be making a profoundly sad face, and checked it out in the mirror. I was nearly expressionless.

This is not to say my face is totally inexpressive. I can smile and laugh, obviously. But I'm pretty much stone faced other than that.

In fact, my dad tells me often enough that my face is actually "severe", which I guess is something. But that's not really a great way to meet people.

I'm not always aware, but it does get pointed out to me how my son and I have similar mannerisms. We had a school meeting today, and I realized we almost mirrored each other. 8O
Don't think about it too much, unless I notice similarities somewhere.

I do try to remember to smile and greet everyone. Otherwise, people see me as conceited and unfriendly.

I know several people who identify with Asperger's (and a few that should). We all sort our M&Ms by color before we eat them. I always thought it was an odd thing to do, but once I discovered "the Spectrum", I thought exactly what OP said "this is a very Aspie thing to do."

Like... sorting through the cutlery drawer at work to find the "right" teaspoon or fork.

Getting cranky when someone at work uses your mug (like, literally, I have two of my own mugs at work).

?? Is the bolded Aspie-tastic? I always get what kind of silverware feels right for what I'm eating (depends on the bowl, the type of food, etc.) My brushed stainless steel feels better with ice cream, pasta, and exotic dishes. My shiny stainless steel feels better with cereal, mac n cheese, and "Americanized" meals. Goodness gracious, that sounds odd typed out  I always just saw that as a quirk.

Yeah, after being diagnosed with AS twice (and finally accepting it) I started reading all about it and it was like "Ahhh, that's why I've always done that!". For example, I've been stimming ever since I was a little boy, I'm 46 and still stimming but until recently, I hadn't even heard of the word 'stimming' let alone know I was doing it!

I love this thread! Everyone's responses are making me feel so much better about my own traits. It's good to know that I'm not the only one to feel or act this way. I started a thread a few months ago called "Things I do that I thought everyone else does, but doesn't". Some of things listed here were on my list.

And I can totally relate to carrying a bag of things with me "just in case". My mother tells me that I always look like I'm moving whenever I go somewhere. I never thought of that as Aspie until just now... My list is very similar to yours, Willard. For some reason I nearly always have a full makeup bag, even though I almost never wear makeup. I used to carry a big purse, but decided to carry a small purse that can fit in my big bag. That way I can have all my stuff, but won't have to carry all of it with me into a store or wherever. A friend of mine carries a backpack with him all the time, and even he says he doesn't know what all is in it (yeah, he's Aspie too :) )

I have a messenger bag which I take pretty much everywhere. It has lots of stuff in it. It's only a recent thing though, as I used to just carry a small bag with a wallet. Although, I do remember using a rucksack lots when I was younger but I don't remember having lots with me all the time.

I actually almost feel naked when I go out and about without my backpack. I'll walk down the street and try to grasp for the straps and hold onto them except...they aren't there.

Yeah I know what you mean. Even if my rucksack were empty I would hang onto the straps. Sometimes I just have what I need in my pockets but I would have found that hard when I was younger, except for the phase when I had a leather jacket, as that was nice and heavy and had pockets full of STUFF.

I sort my M&Ms by colour, and my mixed nuts into their groups, then eat peanuts, almonds, pistachios then cashews.

Wow, I don't sort mine at first, but when I get down to the last few I'll eat only one green one, then a red one, then a yellow one just to even them out before I finish.

Me too. Unless I'm really relaxed or really hungry, I'll usually try to end up with an even spread of colours. I have been known to count them out into piles and nibble down so there's the same in each pile...

Sometimes whenI'm in a loud place I sing to myself to cover up the noise, then I get an "aha!" moment.

I do that at work. I typically have full control of the music at work, so I play songs that I sing at home to help deal with the chaos of the work environment.
By the way Crooked Fingers, is that your actual hand? My middle and ring fingers are crooked like that as well.

Thank God I can't hear anyone else's music in my office.
