Aspies and smartphones
I have the Moto G too. I got the KitKat upgrade today. £129 of pure awesome without a contract, running pure, un-messed-about-with Android

Since my old telephone company was bought by another one, I did not have any connection with my old mobile telephone anymore, because of the new company not supporting the outdated telephone network my old mobile phone used.
So I have one of that super-duper smartphones now as well. (For free, because of me being so long with that company.)
I really dont understand all the excitement about it. I have no interest in stressing myself with reading E-mails every minute, I check them one every 2-3 days in the evening, and its much more comfortable doing so on the bigger PC screen. Same goes for Facebook or such stuff. And normally I care to look where a certain location is, BEFORE I go there, so if I know anyway, where I want to go, I dont need to look for that, when I am already on my way. ^^ And for spending time in between, I always carry a book with me. And for serious gaming I have my PC. Same goes for surfing, I think its much more comfortable on the bigger PC screen then that miny screen. As well that you have no keyboard, so writing Emails or posts sucks with that touchscreen. ^^
Just as I dont understand all that hype about that tons of "Apps". When I started the smartphone, I disabled the fundtion that google was informed, about my location. (O_o) When I did so, my partner informed me, that by doing so, that I couldnt use tons of useful apps, like the "weather app" that is always telling me about the weather of my actual position. ... ... I may be outdadet, but for informing myself about the weather of the actual position, actually looking out of the window or opening the door was pretty sufficient. O_o
Now thats the first stuff mentioned, that sound "useful" to me. ^^ Hope that goes as well for Super Nintendo games, but I imagine them being very small on that mini screen?
I think that heavily depends on how much you use it and how many apps might use ressources in the background and so on. So I have now the Samsung Dingsbums S4 and my partner, having as well a Samsung Dingsbums (one generation earlier) predicted me to need to recharge it every 1-2 days. But it lasts for me about 5 days. I used it mostly only for telephoning, but did as well some photographs and used the flashlight function at some dark rooms in an building site.
I'm very dependent on the alarms. I can set as many as I want. It interrupts my routine or my single minded focus when I have something special that needs doing.
At work I must check the display monitors every 15min. Before I found an interval timer app I could only manage to check them 2 or 3 times a day.
My Kindle app lets me keep a few books with me all the time, so I can read instead of fidget when I have to wait for something.
I use Google maps quite frequently.
As A long time scorner of the whole smartphone "thing" I suppose my continued updates are still relevant heh. So far it has been a wonderful investment. Final Fantasy VI in glorious 3d has captured my eye heh. Its the calendars widgets and reminders that make it worth it however.
Im very socially anxious. I never know what to do with my hands where to look or what to do. I find myself consumed by anxiety and fully "In the moment". Its like being racked thumb to toe. Now I can check all my favourite news sites play a spot of chrono trigger and listen to Sylvia Plath reading her poetry on spotify. At the same time if I wish it!
If I had seperate devices i'd lose them to be sure. I love the integration of all essential functions in a single hub.
Smartphones are generally the types of devices that you need to own to "get". I have borrowed them in the past for brief periods and that doesnt even compare to the act of owning one. You need to personalise it and find out what it can do for YOU. I havent used any social media at all and I dont intend to for example/ Smartphones are often marketed in terms of social connectivity. That put me off a fair amount. The gaming solutions however have me head over heels. To have a DS Gameboy Advance PSP Playstation SNES in one device with 20+ games is something I never thought possible. I could also never afford all those consoles seperately
Some emulators allow you to use the entire screen. The emulator im curreently using for GBA is about the same size as the GBA screen. The buttons are actually virtualised on the screen itself which is annoying. I know you can buy controllers however which will free up screen space.

Its the tradeoff. Because they are so media intensive they consume vast amounts of power. Cant have the best of both worlds unfortunately. There are ways to be more efficient however. Disabling the backlight only keeping one application open at once turning off haptic feedback (I love the feedback, it just feels so much more natural but meh). There are also charger cases which add an extra few hours of charge.

I have a Samsung Galaxy MEGA. it is a HUGE phone, I think the second largest available right now. I like the MEGA not only for its HUGE screen but also because I can swap out the battery if I have to, a lot of phones now do not have that option.
I had an LG Optimus G previously, it was a quad core with 2gbs of ram.. nice little phone, reeeally fast. Hubby got that one when I upgraded.
I have been a tech nut from earliest memory. Taught myself basic when I was 6 on a commodore Vic-20... When the Vic-20 was new at Radio Shack Back-Back-Back in the day.... I have DREAMED of wearable computing/portable computing from childhood.
I love my smartphones.
I use it for surfing the web mostly. Instant access to the sum of human knowledge. As an info-hoarder, it is very enabling.... lol
Sometimes I text with my sister who lives on the other side of the country, sometimes to text the only other person I text with who is also a member here on WP, he tolerates my poor texting abilities... I suck at texting and auto-complete is terrible.
Sometime I use it for calls to hubby or Grandma or to get info. I am sure I look ridiculous using it as a phone so I guess it is a good thing I rarely use it to talk on.
I also use it for playing with my Philips Hue lighting system. Which has some dandy alarms and geofencing. So I can wake up to sunlight gradually getting brighter in my bedroom. The geofencing allows me to walk out of the house and the lights will turn off when the system no longer sees my phone on the network. When I come home, the system senses my phone and turns on the lights.
I use it to voice control my Philips Hue lighting system with an app called SpeechHue "Computer, lights on", "Computer, Lights 50%", "HAL, turn bedroom light red" etc etc etc. you can do whatever phrase you want to.
I have another app called HueDisco which does what it says on the tin, it listens for sound waves and makes the lights flash and change colours to the beat of the music, verrrrry stimmy visually.
I use it for automation and notification with an app called Tasker with add-on apps, incoming text or gmail msg and my lights flicker in a rhythm or pattern depending on what I tell them to do.
I use it to VNC into my home network to control machines on my network for stuff like playing music in the house, or controlling the home theater, managing downloads remotely, controlling the lights, checking out the camera's plugged into my network.
I use it as a remote webcam.
I use it to watch HD movies, and listen to music.
I use the calenders, I have a memopad I can jot things down on and save them till later. I can record notes to myself... if only I could remember to play those notes to myself when I need to.....
Sometimes if I do not feel up to going shopping I will drive Hubby to walmart or where ever and I will sit in the parking lot and watch a movie. But I will connect the phone via bluetooth to the stereo.... Big huge after market stereo system of my own design. Many watts, large bass, Wow. The stereo has a screen for movies and stuff, but the screen on my phone is bigger and better quality. I can also hands-free call while connected via bluetooth which is neat.
If I had a NEST thermostat I could control it with the phone, but seeing as the google just bought that company for $3.2Billion I will avoid it and build my own open source one. Under $100 in parts and the code is available online......
I have a decent Text-to-speech app which also does what it says on the box. I type text and it says what I type on the phone speaker. So if I ever am having such a hard day I cannot find my words and speak them, I can just type it and the phone will speak for me.
Yup, I love my "phone".
Did I mention I have Tetris on my phone?

I received an earlier smart phone model as a gift 2 years ago and I am mixed about the current models I played with in the store.
Pros:
- fun games
- a large variety of applications
- around the clock information access
Cons:
- the touch screen is annoying (never been a fan out touch screens)
- the bills add up if you live off very little
- with apple you really are just paying for the brand
The biggest problem I have had with smartphones is using the touchscreen.
It just feels awkward to me. I never know which finger or hand to use, my accuracy sucks.
I'm just not used to it yet.

Ah just purchased a rugged case! Phone feels heavier doesnt slip around in my hand and im less paranoid about dropping it. It only cost around 10 pounds so an essential investment.
Oh I also have pubmed for android I'll be saving articles for later reading!
PS giff gaff offer unlimited data for 12 a month. Since im on contract I cant take advantage of this but some may consider it worth paying the actual contract unlocking the phone and signing up for Giff gaff 100's of mins unlimited texts and internet
