Out of the 153 comments to the article most involved conspiracy theories. They were claims and implications of anti gun conspiracies and that massacre did not happen ie a false flag operation. The few comments relating to mental heath were in favor of bringing back large scale mental institutions. There was NOT ONE mention of Autism or Aspergers in any of the comments.

I do not expect Aspergers to be blamed as the sole cause. I can see them saying the hyperfocus and special interest from Aspergers were FACTORS. When I read about his detailed meticulous spreadsheet and saw the photo copy of an 1891 Newspaper photocopy of a school shooting, I find it hard not to conclude Spectrum hyperfocus and special interests were not factors. If that is the conclusion the question becomes how do lawmakers react. I don't expect any major public interest in a report about an incident that would be years in the past when the report is released. And those that react may still be focused on gun control and false flag.

Instead of worrying about what might happen in the future I am more worried that we have come to a point where a large percentage of the American public believes the shootings were a conspiracy. Of course if it actually was a conspiracy we really have something to worry about. Whatever the case these are topics that are more important then a backlash that has never really happened yet. Also the real prejudices and discrimination we face are more important then a imagined backlash.

I think the majority of us know that AS did not make the guy a murderer. What we do not know is why he did it, which in my opinion is a much more interesting question. Personally I don't believe in shadow organizations or whatever. I read the police report and analyzed the data from an objective standpoint. My conclusion is that Lanza was certainly not insane. Like most aspies he appeared to have a strong belief in rules and had a hard time in certain situations. However, of all the possible motives for murder Lanza appears to only fit in the frustration, or political categories. The evidence shows that he left no note, showed no anger to anyone other than his mother, carefully rehearsed and planed the attack, was known to have accounts on websites where he debated morality and politics, and then destroyed the hard drive on his computer before committing the attack, while leaving incriminating morbid documents strewn about his room. From this I contend that Lanza was politically motivated. I believe his logic was driven by the belief that if he killed a few people, then he would save thousands through the fallout of his actions. Would you agree are disagree with my assessment?

Some bigoted and ignorant people come to precisely that conclusion. It's the reason there is still a branch of the Ku Klux Klan practising in Virginia. Also, you forget that being autistic is not the same as being black. Most people know that skin colour has nothing to do with mentality, but few people understand what AS really is, beyond a neurological disorder, and can easily come to the conclusion that it is similar to antisocial personality disorder, especially with the "aspies have no empathy" myth still so prevalent in society.

Compared to the 1950s, we have both come a long way and have a long way to go.

A lot of issues. For example, the whole war on drugs, with long prison sentences, and a focus on crack cocaine as the 'other' and something particularly dangerous and more dangerous than other drugs. Perhaps close to a majority of people now view the war on drugs as a mistake and believe in having treatment available rather than prison. And a fair number of people are probably open to the idea that, yes, racial stereotypes fed into the whole war on drugs.

And there are other things. There was a study from at least ten years ago in which researchers gave a file for a home to professional real estate appraisers. And based on whether a photograph showed black kids playing on the front lawn or white kids playing on the front lawn made like a ten thousand dollar difference in the average appraised value! Now, I would like to know how widely professional appraisers vary in their answers. Maybe they're all across the board anyway. And the study does need to be updated.

Yes, a long way still to go.

Is it known what he posted on morality and politics?. That might help me form an opinion. I do know the cops think it was gamers code
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nationa ... -1.1291408
“They don’t believe this was just a spreadsheet. They believe it was a score sheet,” he continued. “This was the work of a video gamer, and that it was his intent to put his own name at the very top of that list. They believe that he picked an elementary school because he felt it was a point of least resistance, where he could rack up the greatest number of kills. That’s what (the Connecticut police) believe.”
The man paused and said, “They believe that (Lanza) believed that it was the way to pick up the easiest points. It’s why he didn’t want to be killed by law enforcement. In the code of a gamer, even a deranged gamer like this little bastard, if somebody else kills you, they get your points. They believe that’s why he killed himself."

I doubt we will ever know for sure which is frustrating for some of us who want to neatly categorize everything.

To my knowledge the official report never suggested that he treated it as a game. Instead the report made the point of saying that there was no known motive. However, there obviously must have been one.

This reminds me of some stuff that I read on an Antisocial forum. Some people on there were making comments like "we haven't had a good massacre in awhile", in response to the Sandy Hook tragedy. They seemed kind of entertained by the idea that this tragedy had set a new kill record. They don't get good "entertainment" like this on the news very often. For them, watching the live updates on the kill count is like watching their home team score points while playing a sport. This was truly an exciting day for them.

I don't really feel much resentment towards them as a group though. They don't have anything personal against autistics, they just hate everyone. I kind of pity them for having to face the harsh circumstances that brought them to this terrible way of thinking. The masses aren't something to pity though; their hatred and ignorance is entirely of their own doing. They don't have to go through life as an emotionally and psychologically scarred individual, who has no choice but to become a misanthrope. There's a difference between choosing to be a misanthrope, and having misanthropy thrust upon you.
