Two reasons: (1) 12-sided dice were relatively unknown outside of military combat simulations in the year 1967, when I was 10; and (2) the Monopoly game has rules governing the roll of "doubles" -- 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, et cetera -- that can not be easily replicated with a 12-sided die.
Here's the breakdown:
2: 1/36, or 35:1 against.
3: 2/36, or 17:1 against.
4: 3/36, or 11:1 against.
5: 4/36, or 8:1 against.
6: 5/36, or 31:5 against.
7: 6/36, or 5:1 against.
8: 5/36, or 31:5 against.
9: 4/36, or 8:1 against.
10: 3/36, or 11:1 against.
11: 2/36, or 17:1 against.
12: 1/36, or 35:1 against.
"Doubles" of any kind: 6/36, or 5:1 against.
But, if you combine the odds of rolling a 6, 7, or 8 (16/36 or 5:4 against), then you're betting at a 44.4% chance that someone only 6, 7, or 8 spaces behind your property will land on that property and have to pay you rent; and if that property is developed to the max, then your opponent will have to pay you maximum rent, as well!
Now, imagine how quickly the game will end (with you as the winner) if your three opponents each occupies one of the spaces that are 6, 7, or 8 spaces behind Boardwalk (Pacific Avenue, North Carolina Avenue, and Community Chest), which you own and have a hotel upon it.

I actually just came up with an idea for how you could use a 12-sided die for Monopoly. Basically, you would roll first with two six-sided dice, and if you don't get doubles, then you would ignore what was rolled, and use the 12-sided die to decide the roll instead.
Ok.. new rule, old dice:
No single player may build more than 12 houses and/or three hotels on any one side of the board; to do so would be to secure an unfair monopoly over the local economy
Though the two dice sets is a good modification too, he's right that a 12 sider would have been tough to find back then. Hmm.. maybe a 16 sider, and if your roll is over 12, you are considered to have rolled doubles; roll again to get your actual move number ?
That really sucks bill!
The only thing that has helped my temper is discovering my celiac disease and being gluten free. Vitamin deficiencies and an immune system that attacks my own nervous system and I would cry and rage over the slightest things. I feel that I can empathize. Well, all of us can probably empathize if we remember what we were like as kids!
I'm surprised that you site that you weren't angry when you throw things though. What else would you be that would make you want to throw something? Obviously something is at work to make you upend tables, throw rocks, etc.
This seems like it should be a manageable problem to a large degree. Cognitive behavioural therapy might help a lot.
