Disgusting, this isn't something to be happy about.

While I disagree about it being 'disgusting' there is nothing disgusting about the existence of people with autism....I would agree its not exactly something to be jumping for joy about, there are quite a few downsides to having the disorder after all.

This is what I think too.

Same here, but I do think it's pretty awesome that there's that many of us spectrumites here in the states. :bounce:

I'm sorry but the above statement is inaccurate. They are actually lying liars who lie about lying. However, their lying is fair and balanced because they will lie about anyone and anything

There's not much sensationalism to be gained by saying "autism is on the decline" is what I meant.

There would be plenty of autistic people to hate. Let's keep it real. We are notoriously hard to deal with. Aren't social skills deficits a requirement for getting diagnosed?

maybe but the U.S is going downhill some ways which could make it harder for people with autism, not so much according to U.S news but look at the international stuff, things are not going that well here. And I have a cat knocking stuff off my desk, hopefully she doesnt spill my water.

Watch: two years from now, the incidence will go down to 35 to 1 or something!

100% Autistic world would be a disaster. Who exactly would look after us?

The severely Autistics, what do they do?

The guy with Aspergers that can function well seemingly, but his house is a mess, he can't look after himself and his hygiene, and he's falling to pieces, what does he do? Who does he turn to?

I have learned to turn to myself, which is what I like to do anyway. Those of us with greater challenges can be cared for by higher functioning ones, and I'd bet a sum of money much greater than I have, (if I had it,) that if that occurred, there would be a lot less abuse of autistic people who need care.

Just another thought, as far as hygiene goes. I have trouble in this area, but I have also noticed that I am not disturbed by others who are not so good at personal grooming. If they really stink, it may bother me and I may move away for my personal comfort, but I won't hold it against them or judge them as a person for it.

Do you?

Good question.

Have been through the thread and I still have no idea what there is to give a high five about.

There are more of us than we thought, but thats neither good nor bad.

I notice that OP makes a lot of threads like these; he acts as if he holds a position on something, but rather than saying why he feels that way, (or in this case, what his position even is) he awaits confirmation from others.

I honestly think it's for attention. And it certainly works. It sounds like something I might have done when I was younger.

...Though I believe I'm the only one who feels that way, and I might get attacked for this.

Well...

I don't see any mob attacking you.

In fact...the OP isnt even defending himself!

Gee....

Could it be that you're right?

Lol!

I do not understand your position. And for all those who who think 100% is great, no. 50-50 would be good. And I do not just try for attention.

The increase in diagnosed cases was from 2008 to 2010 before the DSM 5.

Only 8 year olds were surveyed. Adult Autistics still basically do not exist as far as our government is concerned.

Only people in 11 states were surveyed and there were wide variations between the states. Minorities and women still had much lower rates. If this study results in further backlash it will be minorities and especially women and probably Adults who will see a decrease in diagnoses not upper middle class white boys.

I read comments sections for dozens of articles about this. Commentators were in a panic about the "epidemic". By far most people commenting on the articles blamed vaccines with over diagnosis a significant but distant second.
