Yes I do this all the time (I call it thinking out loud) I find it helps me concentrate on things like my crosswords.
I do have to remember not to do it in public

This has been my saving grace and, to be honest, I have used it deliberately if I don't want to talk to someone who's breaking into my 'private' conversation. Simple 'phone' hand gesture and off they go :)

no doubt that the mobile phone is a boon to aspies, not that we use them but we can LOOK like we are - its ironic really, the thing we hate the most - constant, mindless chatter - has created a wonderful camouflage.

Not really. I don't understand why you would pretend to use your phone. I never take my phone out unless I need to.

I do this often. It helps me think more clearly, and I would often do this when I am at work trying to figure something out. I would, however, try to do this when I am by myself.

You don't even have to pretend to use it when you are surrounded by people nattering away into theirs, and my own monologues are less visable that way. Try as I might not to I still do it, and am grateful to the phone addicts for cover, when I was younger it got noticed!

I do it once in a while.

Like when I am really upset about something, or conversely very intent on something. Sometime I do it when thinking thru conversations or having day dream conversations. But the only one I do in public is when I am really upset and don't have total control over my emotions.

I talk to myself alot. I create entire scenarios sometimes, acting out each part. Other times I might be thinking out loud. Ashamed to admit I actually have imaginary phone conversations in public when I have an idea or topic I need to analyse. Vocalising the ideas helps me to make connections I wouldnt usually make.

All the time. I talk to myself more than other people. I don't hold conversations with myself. I basically think outloud. I too whisper it in public.

Yes, I do talk to myself. Especially when I feel as if I have no one to talk to. :(

I probably do this more often than I realize, especially in public. Verbalizing my thoughts and imaginary stories makes me feel like I'm actually interacting with something, which is comforting. I become so engrossed in the process that I've never noticed whether people have been staring at me for it.
