My advice is always be nice friendly polite....and concise....and have an avatar that stands out and you'll become well known, liked and recognized by all in no time :)

Concise definitely; very few people will read a wall of text, or they'll just read the first and last sentence of it. A distinct avatar is also a good idea. It makes it easier to recognise particular members if they stick to the same avatar. I tend to mix members up who change their avatar often or use one of the stock avatars (and share it with other members! ) or have no avatar at all. I also mix up members who have "aspie" as part of their user name, there are lots of members with the user name aspie(something).

agree wholeheartedly with the avatar idea. but i guess the more you post, and how long you have been on the site, it becomes less of an issue if you went to get yourself known.
i think Cornflake has one of the most distinct avatars around, we all know who it is.
i change mine up around every 2 months or so, same character, but slightly different clothing/positions.

i try to post everywhere i can in any thread than interests me, i try to respond to someone when i can, threads are more interesting when there is dialogue between people, instead of the thread looking like a bunch on answers or comments directed at the op.

every subforum has a different tone.

like this one. this forum is notoriously dead, kids crater even more so. so i guess cliques are harder to form when there is so little activity.

I have over 2300 posts, and I've been on here for just under a year, and I can say I'm pretty well known on WP. Heck, at this stage in my life, posting to WP may just be my biggest hobby. I may not be a fan of communicating with people in "real life", but I can talk up a storm on my forums. It's neat how I can just go online, and talk to tons of other people who have similar experiences and interests. I'm hooked on WP the way most of my NT friends are hooked on Facebook. :P

Anyway, I don't disregard people with small post counts. In fact, I like it when people go for quality over quantity in their posts. That's something I could work on, because I often feel that I post too much.

There are certain topics that have been discussed repeatedly on this site, and people who've grown tired of them sometimes respond in a flippant and/or dismissive manner without thinking about the possibility that the original thread poster is new to the site and/or new to the topic. Sometimes, several people do this...

I think I understand what you are meaning when you mention this, as I believe I've noticed it here or there. I do have to say though- it happens a lot on other forums. Actually I feel often to a larger and more disruptive degree. [In my personal experience]

I haven't noticed much "cliqueyness" on the board, myself. I've maybe not looked around enough, but from what I've seen it's pretty welcoming on the whole I think.

Also, RE: CONCISE POSTING- I am on occasion guilty of the unending post. :o

I've been here maybe a month, and except for one topic, I've felt pretty good about it all.
I'm fallible, and I don't mind being corrected. I may dig in on some things and not on others.
I've had people do everything from question my posts to kudos to no comments.
There are some topics that polarize members, and some of that can be feisty.
And as with forums everywhere, occasionally there's some name-calling.
That's forum life. Stick at it long enough and people will get to know you.
(hmmm.. does anyone know me yet? :P )

I don't know, I haven't been here long enough yet. I don't really pay attention to cliques and it's not important how many people know me. I'm not looking for lifelong friends or anything, just people I have something in common with. You guys sound a lot like me. :)

We could however make cliques if you like. Maybe using special interests would be a logical arrangement.

Hmmm... what cliques shall we make? Off the top of my head I can think of a few.

The Cat People. A large clan, and perhaps the most dangerous. Cat people tend to be a little like their interest. Nice enough if left alone, but best not provoked.

The Dog Pack. More embulient and peppy then the Cat People. Lots of emotion spilling over in their conversations. Very dogged if antagonized however and capable of serious over-reaction.

The Anime (Pronounced 'Annie Mays'). Large and tech savy. Do not belittle or your computer will melt down.

The Pundits. Left and Right is their name, and debate is their game. Forced by Karma to co-exist in one unholy clique. Everyone is miserable and that's the way they like it. The only clique with a warning sign permanently outside. Yet their numbers mysteriously never diminish.

I think WP's cliquey days are long over.

^I quite like the way you write. I have a tendency to misinterpret, but have little trouble with your posts. Whether I agree with you or not, I can usually get along as long as you don't start playing the "I am better than (insert random group of people here)" game.

Although I have relatively recently realized that I frequently come across as combative, but I am working on that.

Hope to see you hit a bazillion post count.

I've noticed some cliquey behaviour in PPR and Love & Dating but otherwise, I can't say it's something I've noticed.

After some thought, I'm not too sure that I would recognize a clique on-line if I were to encounter one.
