I think I'm getting a new embarrassing special interest
Optics is fascinating.
Have you ever studied Impressionism, a 19th-century school of art? Impressionism deals with the relationship between the shadows of the sun and the landscape. This is extended in indoor places sometimes--similar principles within the Impressionist school
I think this has lots to do with optics, because it's similar to the relationship between a lens and a light source.
I have been learning about Jewish people and culture also, as I have a friend with Jewish ancestry.
One of my early special interests as a child was (still is, actually) aircraft and flight. I was embarrassed because according social norms, it was supposed to be for boys, not girls. Quite a few people gave me crap for having that genderly wrong interest, and I often kept to myself about it.
Another more recent interest that I might get shamed for from some people I live around is LGBTQIA and so in however many more letters they may add. Gays and queers are frowned upon by lots of people I know including a lot of my family and people I live around. I developed the interest after having so, sooo, sooo, soooo many people assuming and accusing me of being gay. With people judging me based on these assumptions and more LGBT+ people becoming uncloseted these days with the increasing rights, I figured it would be a good idea to learn more about these 'taboo' people. After doing a lot of studying, I think I fit into the gender queer description.
I like pigeons a lot, and sometimes people think I am weird for liking those 'lowly varmint flying rats'.
I have been studying about Persia and its culture and history and learning some Farsi. This is another interest that people ask my "Why?" I am more interested in the ancient Persians than the ancient Greeks. An offshoot from this interest is other Iranic people other than the 'classic' Persian peoples, like the Scythians, Alans, among others.
My finding out I am autistic, has gotten me interested in neuroscience, autism and other forms of neuroatypical minds, and also disability rights.
People catfish other people because they want to indulge in a fantasy that seems out of reach, or that they have no other outlet for. Or else to prank someone, toy with their emotions, or humiliate them.
The story of Cyrano de Bergerac (the Steve Martin movie Roxeanne) was an example of a catfish with good intentions...a guy who feels like he's not attractive enough for the woman he is in love with, using someone else who is more attractive to express his feelings to her.
Bad ones would be things like a pedophile pretending to be a child so they can talk to children.
Recently there was a star high school football player who got catfished by someone pretending to be a talent scout for a college team. The motivation for that one is a mystery.
