qawer, you seem to have an extremely negative and distorted view of humanity. Not everything is about dominance, threat, survival, etc. Not everyone is out to get everyone else. Some people just want to be nice.

I was almost killed in a bullying incident - I had to reconsider my view of humanity.

If you do not respond to a threat against you, be threatening back in some way, you submit to them.

But in some scenarios you are either unable to or cannot threat back for others reasons, so sometimes you end up submitting involuntarily. And I wonder how you can deal with the bad emotion of being dominated when the damage has been done. Time does a lot, but there might be other things one could do.

What were some of these scenarios which made you unable to threaten back?

For instance if you boss makes fun of you. He can fire you any time he wants to, thereby damaging your career.

Or if someone happens to make a funny comment about you just before quickly disappearing (for instance by closing a door). Those situations where they get the last word because of circumstances you cannot control.

How to get past the hurt feelings.

With a boss, short of getting out of the corporate world, there's not much you can do given NTs' natural propensity to treat their underlings as chattel.

In the other instance though, you can use your superior aspie long term memory to lay in wait and hit back at them at the opportune time. Easier said than done of course.

Spend time thinking of how you are going to hit back at them as a way to assuage your hurt feelings.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. I totally understand how it would change your perspective on things.

Maybe we're not supposed to get past the hurt feelings that easily. I mean if I did, in some situations I might forgive people too easily. I might try to just smooth things over or let it go without really doing anything to resolve it. Plus I've noticed too that certain people would flip back into being nice so they can lull me into a false sense of security. I noticed a pattern, I try to feel better but things get worse. Those bad feelings are motivation to be proactive and do something to protect yourself.

He named his project Smegma..... oh my....words fail me... how could he not know what that meant... I knew what that word meant at about 7 years old, reading about horse care and what needs to be done with stallions & geldings twice a year

The thread title is hilarius. That is what I came here to say. Autocorrect is trying to spell correct words not as they sound...

When I learned self defense, it helped me a lot to get over being dominated in the past. that and learning all kinds of methods to prevent it from happening again, make a plan in your head what you'll do next time. make a plan for every scene exactly, whether you walk away or stop people from harassing you any other way. always know your escape routes. that helps a lot.

I've handled it by:
(1) Quitting my job (bosses really do have you over a barrel when it comes to dominating).
(2) Confining my social interactions to people who don't dominate, as far as possible.
(3) Giving as good as I get, assertiveness and aggression as necessary with any bullies who get through the net (frankly I'm not all that good at this, but I've seen people who are worse at it, and given (1) and (2) above, I don't need to be very often.

There are bound to be some situations in which I need the help of a jerk and might have to pull my punches a little, but I hope these will be few and far between.

Of course we're all being dominated all the time by government and big business, but not in a face-to-face way, and, well, they seem to be in charge, there's nothing much I can do about it for the time being.
