interesting. . . .I became profoundly hearing impaired in early childhood, and I recieved a cochlear implant that gives me near-normal hearing at age 13. Despite years and years of auditory training I still can't understand one on the telephone or a lot of stuff on TV without captions. . . .

Same here, I actually got so tired of being afraid of sudden loud noises. I instituted a kind of crash-course cure for it. Listened to alot of loud music, and watched horror films..to lessen my hearing sensitivity. So it's kind of funny when people are like, you'll loose your hearing. Well what if you were hearing too much?
I have an automatic cut-off on my implant that limits the amount of sound that I hear. . .lucky me!
unfortantly, it is low enough that if I stood next to a vacuum cleaner and a jet engine they would sound at the same level. . . I would probably feel the viberations though.
