I'm not AFRAID to tell people of my HFA,but I don't flaunt it either.

I used to be proud of it,and then I realized that it's not all that great.

Like someone else said before me,it's neither something to be ashamed of OR proud of.

Besides my family, the only others who I've told were the last two girls I dated. I figured they had a right to know, especially because it was my AS tendencies that drove us apart. I was dx'd after dating them, we remain friends, so I felt obligated to let them know that it wasn't their fault.

Everybody else just thinks I'm shy, quiet, or a bit odd; they don't need to know the reason. The way I figure it is that everybody has words that describe them, some are loud, some are friendly, some are mean. Shy, quiet and odd aren't bad, it's just who I am. But once you introduce a medical name for why you are the way you are, it changes everything.

I'm in the closet (not in the gay way). I feel that the tag "syndrome" gives it too much of a stigma.

This would have been a good time to include "other" as an option. I would have picked other because I stepped out of the closet but what I found was a hostile world so I am back in the closet for good.

Same here. I openly say it, I don't try to hide it (because I can't, really), and I'm happier, I think, because I am not having to constantly pretend anymore. I get along fine, but when things get to be too much, I just stop acting and be more natural---and things work out. People are more apt to approach me, now, too. I think a lot of times people just need a reason to understand odd behavior, and once they realize you can't help it, they're relatively okay with it.

So yeah---I'm "Out of the Closet!"

I have no problem with telling people, except that one doesn't just work it into a conversation. I have used it to explain certain misunderstandings however.

your father would reveal his reason for possession of syringes very quickly if asked by a law enforcement officer. We all have to reveal what we would rather not when we have no choice but to defend ourselves.

I really don't care what people think of me if I tell them I have AS. AS is not what I have it's what I am and if people don't like that they can kiss my butt.

I am out of the closet on another forum that I go to. IRL, I'm in the Closet w/Aspergers, though to a trained eye, or somebody who works with Autistic people on a day to day basis I should probably be somewhat obvious.

At work, I can often be nonverbal when I am concentrating on a task, and I believe that this causes some friction. Other people where I work also call me wierd, and I suppose that I am to some extent. -- I am most certainly differant from all employees there.

A former employer made the connection that he had an autistic employee a few years ago before I was aware of the possibiltiy of my having the condition of AS.

I tell everyone, and no one seems to hate me for it.

I am in the closet. Only a couple of people know: my sister and a couple of friends. I haven't even told my girlfriend or my parents yet. Then again, I'm not diagnosed yet, so I can't be 100% sure I have AS anyway.

I don't hide it from people as such, and I'm not ashamed of it; it just doesn't really come up much. I don't exactly say to every new person I meet, "Hi my name is Lionel and I have Asperger's Syndrome" .
