The best way I have found for getting rid of the Gay label, is by working with it, not against it. I've made it into a long running joke, by playing my part of the label and pretending to crack onto the person calling me the name. Such name calling is a form of ostracision and bullying, and it always stops when it doesn't have the intended effect.

I'm gay, and my non-autistic brother is straight. But he wore makeup and odd clothing and people thought he was gay because of stereotyping. He had a perfect way of dealing with it (if you can pull it off and the situation is safe -- being NT probably helped his judgement) : Some guys were apparently bugging him about being "gay". So he blew them a kiss. :D

It helps to "play along" sometimes, so if some one says "You're gay", just reply "You're looking for someone?" and that can really freak someone out, esp. when they are a real macho idiot.

I wish I'd heard that one when I was in middle school & high school.

Yeah.

Apparently when my brother did the kiss-blowing thing, the guys looked nervous and scattered.
