^Um...I'll take your word for it, I guess. Maybe I'm bias against science and physics because I don't believe in the stuff? *shrug*

Well, duhhhh, who can't? Ohhhh, that's right...Zachary Quinto..THAT POSER!! LOL

I knew a few people in my life who could bounce their eyebrows independently. I can only raise just the one. The left eyebrow. Oddly that's the only ear I use when on the phone and not using ear buds.

I'm not overly familiar with Star Trek to be honest, but I remember my mother comparing me to Spock and saying I was "Vulcan" when I was younger. I can sort of see it. I've also had people compare me to Sheldon Cooper from TBBT (no surprise there.), but as far as popular fictional characters go, I've actually connected more with Dr. Gregory House and Dexter Morgan. Now, I know that *these* characters are more sociopathic than "aspie" in nature, but I could still relate to them in a number of ways, and I found them to be much more "human" than the walking nerd archetype that is Sheldon Cooper. Of course, when I was younger I often wondered if I were a sociopath, since I felt so disconnected and different from other people, and I felt more cold, logical, and calculating than the average person.

^^I am usually scare-impervious, but the uncanny valley seriously creeps me out.
^I think I would like the new Star Trek movies better if they were about the Enterprise crew just starting out as young adults, not as alternate timeline shenanigans.

Ugh, this will be known in entertainment history as, "the Golden Age of Lazy Writers". It's *hard* to make new stories fit canon - so much easier to ignore it and instead fall into an alternate time bubble with lots of explosions and skydiving.

I had such high hopes for Enterprise, the first series to go back to the beginning (not counting the STNG "make sure Cochrane meets the Vulcans" flic). But then Enterprise went all alternate-Nazi-timeline shark jumping. It's what made me lose interest in Voyager, so I just never got hooked on Enterprise. Then JJ Abrams started doing the same with the latest round of movies and I just shook my head watching the first one.

On the OT: Spock was too uber-male-cold for me, despite his human side. I liked Data at the time b/c he was discovering that he was developing emotions. He was also an excellent writers tool to help examine Asimov-esque questions of what it means to be human.

I never felt like 7-of-9/Annika, either - mostly b/c she was obvious eye candy and a bit too pandering. Tess was probably the closest - she was different, a little weird, but nice. But then she exploded in the meltdown to end all meltdowns, so there's that. ;)

I'm decidedly unanimous on both sides of this debate.
1.) It was wise to reboot the franchise from scratch however they had to do it. The timelines of the Star Trek univers and deviations were a mess. There is no way to continue with that, especially after the debacle that 'Enterprise' was. When they brought in Manny Coto, way too late I might add, they even changed the name to "Star Trek: Enterprise" to try and increase visibility. But it was too late and all the messing with the 'extablished canon' well, I would not even want to do that. But, he did capture the main characters quite well and the secondary characters are much more prominent and not just token minorities and cliches.

So, One point for the yay sayers on the reboot.

2.) While J.J. Abrams brought fun back into the franchise, which had been missing for years and years, and...oh wait..I am not both of those guys in the balcony of the muppets....Oh, yeah...so it's fun now, but the 'science' is just all whacked out. The thing about Star Trek was a sort of believability that is now gone. Let me give you 'a for instance'. In the second movie, they come out of warp at the moon. Most of the battle takes place at the moon. Yet, miraculously, when needed to have a crisis, they are instantly at the Earth's atmosphere. Ummm...what? That's just the tip of the supidberg you'd have to climb to start chipping away at anything resembling something other than science fantasy. I have nothing wrong with that. It's just not Star Trek.

So, One point for the Nay sayers!!

As you can see, I am a thoroughly confused man......

But, one thing I am certain of, I am pissed that the new movie will make me go buy a new freakin' model. I collect the buggers. I ahve all the 3' Enterprise models that have been put out except the Enterprise D. Ugggghhhh...Don't hate on me please....

But in the next movie, they destroy the Enterprise. So, new Enterprise means new model.....craptastic flibbertigibbet razza frackin!! ! Arrrggghhh...I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth......

Only the oldsters will get that last reference...... :jester: :jester: :jester:

I too can relate to her and her struggle with understanding social interaction. I don't identify with Spock or Data at all though, as I'm not the least bit lacking in emotion. If anything, I relate to a mix of Seven and B'Elanna Torres (but without her genius with machines).

The reason why Spock was my fave in TOS was that I thought he was cute! I liked the hair and the ears

By far the two fictional characters I identify with are Sheldon Cooper now and George of Famous Five when I was a child.

I thought I could do it, until I noticed exactly what's he doing with his fingers. I have a real hard time getting it right, and my fingers will easily tremble and soon feel ache in my fingers.

I meant no disrespect. I actually know many people who can't do that. It was just the setup to slam Zachary Quinto for no reason at all. It was just a badly placed attempt at humour because he can't. They actually had to use stunt hands and stick his fingers together.

Please don't worry about it, zkydz, I wasn't offended by what you said. :) And I guessed that slamming Quinto might have been part of the reason you posted that
