My first full-time job was about £3.20/hr (circa $5/hr at the time) which was then the minimum wage for 16 year olds. The most I ever earnt worked out at about £8.90/hr (circa $17.80/hr)

Now I am a full time student I get a £3,000 per year tuition fee loan, £3,300 per year student loan, £2,700 per year local education authority grant and a £2,700 per year scholarship.

I paid more than the higher than average $20 per hour just in income tax.

I'm getting fleeced...

At different moments during my adult life I could answer yes to just about all of the options presented - accept retirement. I guess that gives me something to look forward to over the next 40 years.

That's why I said per hour. The first quarter that I had my fellowship, I think I calculated it out to about $60/hr. It went way down last quarter, but is probably close to that again this one. But, I luck out, getting fully funded (somehow) for 1/2 a GTF position. Someone must like me.
