I can't listen to madonna ciccone's music, as she is IMHO an awful person with an outrageously inflated view of herself. no wonder her kid can't stand her.

as someone who does this professionally, i can give you a hint or two.

one, artists when they aren't in 'artist' mode (at a show, gallery opening, book signing, etc) and are out and about...want to be treated like real people. they often aren't in the particular "artist" mindset, and are often just wanting to be treated as "normal." case in point: i once witnessed the sad sight of Ani DiFranco being followed around Waterloo Records by a group of teenage lesbian folk musicians. The look on her face said it all: she just wanted to buy records. The girls, innocent as they were, didn't seem to get that she wasn't wanting to be "Ani" right then and there.

two, not all artists can verbalize about why they do what they do, and they get annoyed because people want to ask them how they do what they do. it's nothing personal against the person doing the asking--it's just that if you can't explain something right offhand, it can be really frustrating!

three, they get put into this scenario all the time. think your question hasn't been asked? wonder about that disdain when approached? it's not you. it's them.

in general...they have to do the leading off in the conversation. you can't force the issue.

thank you for that explanation. :flower: am curious about your field. I am guessing artistic types versus non-artistic types are akin to Rudyard Kipling's little ditty about how "east is east, west is west, and never the twain shall meet."

i'm a professional writer/journalist. which is kind of funny because i'm terrified of cold conversing with strangers.
to me an interview is my live stage, i work myself into a state of readiness for it, perform, and when it's over, i don't want to talk about it (nor do i particularly remember it, even). as an Aspie and as someone who is painfully shy, it takes a lot out of me.

^^^I hope you remember that there are other aspies [including myself] who regard you positively [and other similar high-functioning AS folk] for your ability to transcend the limitations we all struggle with to varying degrees. :star: it is like you give people like me a bit of hope.

Another special interest of mine is the Internet. I've been on the web searching and browsing for 19 years already. I'm just starting to work on my art and watch TV again.

My special interests are anthropology, linguistics, psychology, visual art, and human biology (genetics, medicine, nutrition, fitness).

The majority of my interests involve the study of humans in one way or another. Except for visual art.

That makes my special interests superior. It also makes me smarter than everyone else on the planet. And more important. And a better cook. And it gives me superpowers. I can turn invisible. :P
