I think that if one goes on vacation, it has to have a meaning. Most people get meaning from their vacation by bonding with their friends who they travel with.

This does not happen if one goes alone. SO unless the vocation is based on a hobby or making money or finding love, or getting away from a VERY stressful life, it would be so meaningless it would be depressing. This is especially the case if you can hardly afford it.

i'm ambivalent on this. I love going away and seeing new places, and I like staying in hotels. But I do miss my 'stuff'! I always take my pillow when it's convenient (i.e. on British holidays but not holidays abroad) because it's a great comfort to me to sleep on it rather than a hotel pillow. I really miss the computer when I'm away from it, especially since I found WP.

I'm on vacation right now...meaning I'm just off work, sitting here by myself, and semi-sad about it :(

I like vacations if I am in control of them..ie I plan my own activities and research the areas I will be going, local language, etc. If someone else plans it or I have no idea where or when or mode of travel...total freakout :!: :!: :!: Part of it is I have to plan responses to hotel/hostel/resteraunt/musuem(you get the idea) so they won't treat me like a ret*d. It takes me a while to respond to questions if I don't have a practiced response. My biggest fear is if I get a girlfriend who likes to take spontaneous roadtrips or vacations. 8O 8O 8O 8O

I like vacations when I can decide myself where I want to go, and I don't mind spontaneous trips. The only thing I don't like is travelling with large groups, because usually the others have different interests.

I don't think I had really had a real vacation until recently.
When I was young we had went to Michigan to the Greenwich Village. I would almost count that as a real vacation, except that it was all learning history stuff. Interesting, but still like going on a long extended field trip.
My first real vacation was last summer I went on a road trip by myself. I drove from Illinois down to Florida.
I enjoyed every moment of it, driving, seeing new places, went to the aquarium, but the best part was my stop at the Mammoth Caves. Went on an actual caving crawl for about 6 hours and loved every minute of it. I only had a extremely loose plan of getting to Florida and stopping at Mammoth Caves. That was about it. Of course that is nearly the only things I did, but it was worth it.

With the good time I had I am thinking about making a trip to Japan like I have wanted to do for a couple of years now. I would like to go with one or two other people though.

I enjoy travelling and vacationing for the most part, but I tend to like to see the sights and ignore the people. I can't imagine going on a tour with a group, and I don't really enjoy "talking to the locals" like the travel guides encourage.

Don't really get along with holidays. Or vaccinations.

Familial relationships are, for me, a wee bit strained. Spending a week or longer in their constant company... it gets to be too much, I want to see other people, people who understand me a bit better, my friends. I start to crave after what I know and am used to, and things are even worse if I don't speak the language there... I almost broke down in France, no idea what it'll be like in Italy.

I do not like vacations in any capacity because they keep me away from my hobbies.

I'm exactly the same, one of my obssesions at the moment is planning and researching holidays, so far i've got almost day to day plans for the next 2 years' holidays and rough ideas for about the next 5. I love living out of a rucksack, its so easy to keep track of where all your stuff is. and i prefer not speaking the same language as the people around me, people tend to asume the aspie stiffness when i speak is just because im not familiar with the language and they're helpful instead of looking at me like i'm a freak.

A friend wants me to go on a boat cruise with him over Christmas. The thought is freaking me out. I do not think I can leave Australia. What would you do on the cruise? Will there be internet access? What if I need to get off? How will I get my daily dose of down alone time? There are just too many things about this idea that is troubling me.
