Yes, I see movies by myself most of the time now. I started going by myself a little over a year ago. I don't think it makes much difference once the movie starts playing.

Hehe. Growing up in a five-generation cinema and stage family, I didn't learn it was strange to watch movies alone; we all worked in cinemas and watched alone all the time. My family members still remind me how at age six years, during a screening of Disney's 1968 The Love Bug, I roamed the aisles muttering "Herbie!" along with Dean Jones' character searching for a forlorn Herbie who is preparing to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. Apparently, I was a bigger hit with the audience than the movie was.

Anyway, I prefer watching movies alone at matinees.

Back in the Nineties I went to "Roger Rabbit" by my lonesome in a theater at the midday kiddie matinee.

Being the only grown up in a crowd of kids while watching "Roger Rabbit" was quite an experience.

The humor in the movie is two tiered. The crowd of kids roared with laughter at the kid stuff, but only I would laugh at the sly naughty adult humor the movie serves under the table. No sound except me laughing my ass off at certain jokes. Then the kids would gleefully turn and stair at me, and murmer to each other "why is he laughing at that?"(not in a scornful way, but with a tone of gleeful curiosity about grown up humor). :)

I saw roger rabbit at a theatre when it came out in the late 80s, I was one of only about 4 people in the theatre, as it was a first matinee showing mid-day during the week.

I just saw Finding Dory by myself--not only did I buy a discount matinee ticket--but it is right next to a discount tool store!

I rarely ever go to the movies, and when I do, it's because my parents want me to see something or someone else invited me. So I'm always with someone when I (rarely) go to the movie theater.

^^^^mee too :bounce: the only thing these days that can get my butt into a cinema seat is an invitation to attend from a relative. no in-person friends to invite me.

I rarely go, unless something is playing that really intrigues me, but I usually go alone. I like art films so what intrigues me is usually torture to other people. lol And vice-versa the movies other people like are torture to me.

It would be wonderful if I had someone to go with who appreciated the same kind of films...I'd like that...but I have no problem going alone. And I will drive a long way to see a good film series or rare screening.

Do people really call it "the cinema"? Where I live everyone calls it the thee-aiter.

Kind of like when I hear people say something about hiking in a "forest" and I'm like...you mean the woods right?

We just call it a movie here. Like my parents will say they are going to a movie.

I never go to the cinema, too many noisy kids or phones spoiling the movies.

The cinema is the one place I can do alone. Because I am a CineFile, and I love films, it's one of my special interest. I don't need to focus on anyone, but the movie. It's the one social event that requires no social interaction. Besides I love film editing, and liking to look for little details in the background. I also like to learn from the actors and see how they do it because I myself am in the theater business as well.

I should be so lucky, to sneak away.

While I am flexible, I find that procrastination and other theatrics are emotionally-draining and can be used as a means to control people.

I was stupid, to say where I go to watch fireworks, and am seriously considering boycotting a new a pool, in 100F+
