I actually do nowadays. But when I was younger, that was definitely not the case. I would talk more to adults (at school, or at home) rather than people my age. But after having two years of volunteer experience at a local elementary school, my college plans include going for my Elementary Education degree, and becoming a teacher.
But it depends on where. At my apartment, the pool is open during the summer, and the kids are out on the playground. It is noisy as heck and I cannot stand it. I also cannot stand working with children who are below the age of 7 or 8. Preschoolers, to me, are like 40-pound babies. Some of them still use diapers, and they are very messy and gross sometimes. Sorry, couldn't work with them!
The opposite happens when they reach middle school. HECK NO, I would NEVER teach a group of idiotic 7th of 8th graders. Talk about yelling at them! You occasionally find a kid this age who is wonderful, but other times, they are trying to do dumb things because they think they can.
That sweet spot for me is age 7-11. They are kids who still love their teacher and friends, but don't do a lot of stupid stuff. They enjoy school and enjoy various activities.
On the opposite side, when I get married, I don't want kids. I'd rather have the 25 kids in a classroom for 6 1/2 hours a day, rather than a kid growing up with us for 18 (or more) years. I would feel more comfortable when I come home either alone, or with my wife.
