Do you always look like you're frowning?
I look serious most of the time. When I'm happy, I start frowning. This seems to confuse people.

I have been called "glass face" or "robot" more than once since childhood.
As an adult, people have come to me and asked if I was a cop or military due to my rigid (I assume) posture/features.
I have mastered two forced smiles, the closed mouth, and the slightly open mouth. The usually elicits a response of "No....smile foreal!" from photographers. As a rule, I never liked my photo taken.
As for the "closed/asian eye" thing.... I get that ALL THE TIME. People either assume I'm some sort of asian (which I don't mind, I love the far east)...or, get this....that I'm BLIND.
I guess I am more introspective than I thught. Instead of just avoiding eye contact, I have been told that I just shut my eyes altogether. People being people, most take offence at this behaviour and consider me rude and/or crazy.
I think I'm just passively filtering out all the noise. What do you think?

Well, I do have an actual "happy smile" (that I don't like to use around people I don't know, as they never fail to make shocked comments about it) , but I'm often told I look angry, and I've been called both "stone-face" and "zombie". As for the "asian"-thing it's a lot less common, but it happens.
In fact, I developed the "stressed day"-method parallely to you, Aspie 1, and I sometimes close my eyes to avoid looking at people, but I try to make it look like I'm just very tired, because many seem alarmed by people walking around with their eyes closed. ![]()

You know i just got the are you in the military remark myself last week, but i was in though so i cant use that one...
I agree so far as it being a passive filter. Ive been hypersensative ever since i can remember and i think my eyes could have automatically adapted to protect my brain from a world that i try continually not to be overwhelmed by....
Not to sound apathetic, but a lot of the time i feel i shouldnt smile for anyones pleasure regardless if i dont feel extremely happy or like a bowl of sunshine....when i do get the courage to look people in the eye and get a good vibe i often feel a brief period of joy for i feel like i have connected with someone yet often i get nothing in return.....i find that opposite with most kids and elderly people...those two groups of people rarely seem to judge...

the conventional view serves to protect society from the painful job of thinking.
People ask me "whats wrong?." Some people call me "Mr. Cranky." When nothings wrong. Even when I am in good mood, people still call me cranky.
When I try to smile so I don't look "cranky," I look mischievous apparently. My boss will say, "What's with the shit-eating grin?"
Most of the time, when I'm around strangers. I just pretend like I'm in a horrible mood, people generally will keep their distance and avoid interacting with me. It works perfect, it's like a people repellent.
