The kids should have known that you are good at hockey despite your lankiness. The first impression might have been that you suck at hockey and sports because you're tall and lanky---but once they see you play, they should have had that memory of you playing well.

I've seen many lanky people in sports who are professionals and skilled at that.

I am short and stocky---and clumsy. I was frequently picked last for teams, too. Even though I used to play football rather well, and people had difficulty tackling me because of my low center of gravity.

Yes I'm clumsy, but I cope with it and hide it well. I do my best to keep anything I might knock over, trip over, or tread on out of my way. I avoid dancing. I try hard to avoid making sudden movements, and to live my life in a slow, deliberate kind of way. I try to live according to a routine so that through repetition I learn well the "choreography" of the things I do. As a result, I manage to do most things with a surprising amount of efficiency, elegance and grace, and it can be very hard to believe I'm clumsy at all, as long as I'm not denied the aforementioned careful control of my behaviour and environment.

I've read that clumsiness is a common trait in Aspies because the motor neurones or whatever they're called don't fire properly, so physical movements tend to be jerky and rather out of control, and I'm sure hyperfocus comes into it too - if your attention is glued to one thing you're not going to notice much else.

It's not unusual for us to be. Autism coming with sensory issues sure doesn't help that.

I'm not too bad these days in terms of clumsiness as long as I take my time. However, I also have a vision impairment...So I tend to walk into crap a lot >.>

I am a klutz from time to time. It surprised me that I could learn to play tennis, because I wasn't athletic at all as a kid.

I'm clumsy but I have heard that doing body exercises such as martial arts help train the body and mind with spatial awareness. I used to do taekwondo and I don't bump myself half as much as I used to. I still get bumps but I know lots of people not on the spectrum who ALSO are clumsy.
